foxy
Well its time to build something with Resincast and Tamiya combined. Have three Tamiya carriers and some Resin cast flame thrower/MMG carrier and other parts. To start these builds I am concentrating on the engine for these carriers. First you need the Tamiya carrier. Plus the Resin cast engine. Also have the Resin cast tracks. So the basics for this build. 'Ahh', one other product. This will help also. Started by putting the carrier together and adding the resin. Next was the Engine parts. The engine also comes with PE. More to follow. Foxy
Stesca
Well I am looking forward to seeing this come together a nice bit of resin there.
foxy
Thanks Steve and Dan.Well the other two kits Steve will have a lot more resin than this one.A tad more on the MkII. Have chosen an AOP for this build. Will be in Italy or Europe, that so far is the plan. To continue.Interior fuel tanks and runners for the engine inplace. Then it was concentrating on the engine. The main bulk of the engine is in one piece, just some additions added, plus some scratch building of the plugs etc.Test fit of the engine. Not sure if the rope was the right approach for the fan belt, but we will see once some primer has been added.A sense of scale for this build.Foxy
Dads203
Just found this foxy, it's going to be good from the look of it mate :-) I would use some tamiya masking tape for the fan belts fella. Dan
foxy
Great idea Dan, have tried rope and foil from wine bottle tops. That sounds much better, will try that. Cheers foxy
foxy
Not much done so far as I am making three kits of the carrier at the same time.First which is more resin than plastic, but will have loads for the spares boxes. The second is even more resin built. But have moved on a tad with the AOP Mk II.Made up the rear axle and added resin outer spokes for the better resin track later.Rebuilding the boxes that go on the right inside,(looking from the front).Have a lot of Eduard PE for these builds.Next the first coat of paint on the engine and the sparkplugs inplace.Sorry about the quality of the picture, it will improve methinks.foxy

longshanks
Hi Frank, Just caught up with you, looking forward to watching your progress. A bit of ' light modelling ' will enable you to go back to Victory with a clear palette and help you retain your sanity. Kev
bigbadbadge
They look very nice. Great work so far, got a Universal Carrier in the stash, will watch with interest. Great work so far. All the best Chris
foxy
Thanks guys.Hi Chris, yep there very basic be these carriers, but with a bit of research they can be fun to build.Good luck on your carrier. Some progress on the first AOP carrier.Had to alter the rear some, so scratched a few items. The number plate also has to be made up.Added some to the engine panels.Plus worked on the underside.Flitting from one thing to another, but helps to keep the build going.Engine inplace. Some work still here. Also working on the other two carriers, will show more when the basic Tamiya hulls are complete.foxy
Stesca
Great stuff Frank, agree with the masking tape for the belts, really admire your detail work.
foxy
Cheers Steve.Moved on a tad more with a sprayed coat of British deep bronze green. At the same time added the map board holder for these earlier vehicles.Added a bit of weathering.Finished the basic shape to the rear, just need to add ration box, cable holder, Jack etc to complete, 'oh', and the tools.Suspension sprayed up ready. Then started on the second carrier, this is the Wasp Mk II, sprayed the primer on the hull/engine compartment and PE frets for this build. The resin will be removed at my workmeet Friday.Rear area.foxy
foxy
Its back to the AOP carrier Mk II.With the suspension added. The front rebuilt to an early type. Two lights to add plus some smaller detail. The rear also rebuilt, the bracket and drum to add plus tools and canvas cover. The engine will only have one of the covers so detail can be seen.Internal detail still to add radio and antenna parts, plus other items.foxy

Killingholme
Cool models- the resin really does refine the Tamiya kit. Incidentally, I purchased the Riich models kit of this vehicle- which is insanely complex for such a small vehicle and I doubt I'll ever find the time to 'clear the decks' sufficiently to build it. There's a lot of work here putting resin parts on the Tamiya kit, but it all seems quite sensible compared to the Riich kit, and I bet the final result will certainly give the more complex plastic kit a run for it's money! Good luck finishing these models. Will
foxy
Cheers Dan, Kev and Will. Thanks for that Will on the Riich, not having seen this kit, I cannot comment on its complexity. But find doing the builds this way very relaxing. Plus I have had the extra's for some time now. After I have completed the AOP and Flamethrower version I might go back to my other build. foxy
Stesca
Never realised you could get so much detail into a bren carrier, great stuff.
foxy
Cheers Steve, yep there's a lot you can put on these carriers.Have primed the resin track.Res-cast recommend brushing the excess off with a tooth brush. Started the weathering, still some more to do, then Klear and decals.Little delay while moving workplace.foxy
foxy
Thanks Kev .A little setback on the tracks, as you know I am using resin one's for this, but they will not hold together.Soaked in warm water but to no avail.Luckly I have two sets of white metal one's.In the picture the brown is the resin and the other white metal. As most know to solder white metal a low temperature is required. For this I will be using low melt solder and a controlled iron. This should do the trick. It means only two carriers can be done by this method.foxy
foxy
Moved along and soldered up the tracks.Tricky job this in placing on carrier. Now its weathering to cover all the diff greens I used. Also started on the Wasp MkIIc.Added brass flame gun and other bits an pieces to mount later on this carrier.foxy
foxy
Another small update on the Wasp. Prepared for primer. Surprising how long it takes for preparation.
foxy
A little more done today. With the weather improving it was nice to be outside, but did manage some spraying. These are the basic colours I am using, but there are others to finish.Carrier AOP just needs decals and a finished weathering.Wasp on its way.foxy
foxy
Well about complete on the first carrier.AOP it be and with the 11th Armd Div Europe. The Wasp to is coming along with extra parts added.foxy
