Masking before zero paints 2k clear

Hi guys

I have a question about something related to Zero Paints 2k clear that I couldn't find an answer for anywhere.

I want to clear a rear bumper of a ferrari model car, but not all of it is supposed to be the same color. The main color ir red (the color i want to be glossy with the 2k clear), but the middle section is semi-gloss black, I was thinking about masking the black area and then applying the clear...

Has anyone done this before? I'm afraid it might crack when I try to take the masking tape off... Or that I'm not able to remove it at all...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

With that kind of thing (rubber inserts, window trim...) I find that it's better to put the clear coat on, THEN mask and spray the semi-gloss black using Humbrol enamel, which goes over the gloss clear nicely. The clear forms a very tough, slightly elastic coating which your masking tape is under, so just peeling it off won't work. It's possible to slice all around the tape edges with a sharp knife blade before removing it, but i wouldn't recommend it! (and yes, I have tried ;-()

All the black on here was applied over the clear coated yellow. Masking it took a while, but it was worth it, I reckon...

bestest,
