JWM Posted March 15, 2015 Share Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Hi, Perhaps the biggest secondliner so far on mine shelves: Curtiss C-46 Commando. Model is made from Williams Brothers kit. Markings (nose arts are hand painted) are presenting machine which survived the war, was used in Pacific area and is now on display in Pima museum in US. I was searching for some interesting markings and was not successfull with this some years ago, when I was making this model. Just from curiosity I started to search in web yesterday and found very interesting set of photos of C46 from Burma, 1944-45, with yellow strip going across all windows, probably with red nose and many different nose arts. I made a post about in in WWII forum - the llink is there. Perhaps one day I will re-paint mine C46 to those markings. I am so impressed about it... Wonderful build, and so very wonderful that if I were you, I wouldn't repaint her, just leave her that way and better if you have chance to get another to build in another version to make company to this one, and someone told me that the kit has two sets of different propellers, so try to remember when you build this one and tell me if its right, so that way the acquisition will be more than justified... I remember watching the ones flown by LACSA, the Costa Rican Flag Airline when they used to cometo Guatemala in early 1970's as was a strong sound of those engines and then watching this nice machine to gain altitude orbiting over the sky in Guatemala City until they were very very high and then get the route to San José de Costa Rica Capital city...It was a nicely high quantity of minutes showing to the sky........or the Flying Tiger Line or Nicaraguan Air Force ones which they used to name as just "Curtis" when they came from time to time here engracing the sky with this nicely sound and size, and making every enthusiast to go to the airport to watch "The Show".........Aaaahhhh, those were the days....
