Andrew Perren
Hi learned colleagues, I am working on the Tamiya 1/48 Mossie FB VI as supplied to the RAAF from British Origin in 1945 and Operated by 1 Sqn at Morotai. As I have a healthy mistrust for profiles and many internet sources maybe you can help. Some modellers add a wire aerial from the mast, aft of the canopy back to the vertical tail, yet in most period images of RAAF FBVI's I have seen I cannot make out any trace of such an aerial. I understand that other marks may have the wire. The Tamiya instructions don't call out anything and colour the profiles I have looked at are a 50/50 mix with or without. Any opinions ? Don McIntyre
IMO, don't worry about what other modelers do (after all, they could be wrong). Base what your doing on photos of the real thing (when possible). I'd say if photo evidence doesn't show it, then you'd be safe in not including it. If nothing else, you can show a pic or two saying "see, it's not there..." Edited March 10, 2015 by Don McIntyre
NAVY870
RAAF Mosquito's had a HF radio so the wire aerial would be appropriate. Its only a tiny narrow thing so it may not show up easily in piccies
Andrew Perren
Thanks Don & Steve. Aerial it is then.
Ozhawk40
Take a look at AWM photo OG3128. This has a good view of the aerial, which is clearly visible on A52-510 H-NA

The wooksta V2.0
You'll also need 100gal tanks (possibly from the 48 Airfix NF.30) and tropical filters. Not sure if the Paragon ones are still about but I doubt it. Besides, if the 48th ones are anything like the 72nd ones, they'll be too flat instead of following the engine cowling curve. You could adapt Hurricane Vokes filters. I've done that in 72nd and they look much better.
Doug A Jones
Ultracast do 100 Gal tanks for the Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito.

The wooksta V2.0
Sadly, I was right. They're too flat. See these photos to see what I mean: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/DH.98_Mosquito_FB.6_301_Dominica_RWY_07.48_edited-2.jpg/img] Interesting photo of Aussie Mosquitos. Spoked hubs and no tropical filters.
