little-cars
We now have the new Vallejo Flow improver in stock in 200ml and 32ml bottles. I am hoping that this will help a lot of people who have problems with Model Air drying on the needle/nozzle of their airbrush. Vallejo guide is 1-2 drops of flow improver to 10 drops of paint Will be having a play with it next week. 200ml: http://www.modellingtools.co.uk/model-air---flow-improver-200ml-12685-p.asp 32ml http://www.modellingtools.co.uk/model-air---flow-improver-32ml-12687-p.asp Ta, Paul Edited March 8, 2015 by little-cars
Duncan B
I have a bottle and had a quick play with it today. I tried spraying without it first and got the usual drying then added a couple of drops and it greatly reduced the tip drying. I'm sure that with a bit of testing different ratios it'll make a big difference. Duncan B
little-cars
Thanks for that, sounds like it needs a proper investigation. I'll setup a couple of 0.2mm nozzle H&S brushes and do a few side by side tests. Paul
sroubos
My problem with Vallejo is always that the paint doesn't harden properly, it's very easily damaged and 'feathers' when sanding it. Particularly useless for the primer. This is a shame because it sprays beautifully, no need for flow improver here.
little-cars
I have heard somewhere on Britmodeller and other forums that vallejo paint and the primer particularly does take a while to cure. Have seen 3-4 days mentioned in the past. How soon after application are you trying to sand it?? Paul
sroubos
That's correct; you let it dry for four or five days and it hardens enough to sand it. Trouble is, I'm impatient. Tamiya or Halfords primer dry in hours so I prefer to use that. Would love to hear if anyone knows any additives that harden it a bit faster because, again, the finish is absolutely perfect. mikesmodels
I've heard, not tried, that mixing the primer with 25-50% klear stops it from peeling when sanding. Cheers, Mike.
Knikki
Have been playing with the Flow Improver I picked up from you at Cosford and have found the following: I mix mine with Air Brush thinner and while 1 to 10 drops is recommended I am using anything like 3 or 4 drops to 10 thinner espically when trying to spray Vallejo Model Colour or Andrea Paints, they seem very thick and pigmented and when spraying, through a 0.2mm needle the MC colour need more than, "thin it until it is like milk" which seems to be the usual advice. It works very well with the Vallejo Game Colour and I can spay that no problems. Flow Improver works well when you are trying to hairy stick brush the above paints, really helps with slowing down the drying time making dry brushing alot easier and helps in getting a smooth application and not making brush makes so obvious.
little-cars
Hi, Thanks for the feedback, glad you've got it working. Will try those ratios when I finally get a chance to use it. Paul
Threadbear
I sprayed some Vallejo grey primer with Vallejo airbrush thinners onto the interior parts of my new mould Airfix Hurricane and it seems to be okay. Later oversprayed with Vallejo aluminum and humbrol 78 and seems fine. But the Vallejo black did clog the nozzle of my Badger airbrush.....soon cleaned up
