Q: Lancster gun barrels

I am working on and off on a couple of Lancasters, and have a few more planned. When it comes to using aftermarket stuff, the kit gun barrels is something that really benefits from being substituted. Already a couple of years ago QuickBoost produced resin barrels for the Lanc. But these also raises a couple of questions. They make two different versions; one with round cooling holes in the jackets, and one version with oval holes. Question is, did one of the versions preceed the other, or were both versions produced in parallell? If one preceeded the other, when did the change occur? I haven't been able to find any information on this, and it is virtually impossible to see in photos which version is fitted to a particular aircraft.

TIA

They are a lot more expensive but I highly recommend the Master Models brass .303 barrels. With them being brass you're also less likely to snap them if you catch them when handling the model.

I have already bought a few of these. And yes, they are superb!

So oval holes seem to be the consensus here, and thats what I will use then. But the question still remains, how and when are these QuickBoost barrels to be used? According to their website they are intended for the Hasegawa Lancaster.

I dont have a Hasegawa Lanc handy, but Hasegawa may have molded the barrels separate. If the barrels are attached to the guns in your kits just cut off the kit barrels and replace with the QB items. If you can drill a small mounting hole that would help considerably.

No the barrels in the Hasegawa kit are molded integrally with the rest of the guns. This set of resin barrels are, just as the identical set but with oval holes, sold as a replacement for the Hasegawa barrels. I.e. QuickBoost is offering you the choice between two sets of barrels for the Hasegawa Lancaster (in effect, any Lancaster), one with round holes in the jackets an one with oval holes. The kit barrels have to be cut off regardles of the choice of replacement barrels. That's why this poor modelling sod gets confused.:undecided:
