Two Cracking New Books From Pen & Sword

Hiya Folks,

I know that Pen & Sword books can sometimes be a little hit and miss but I have just bought two absolute crackers which I`m sure will appeal to Post War RAF modellers. The first is;

Images of War- The RAF in the Cold War 1950-1970 by Ian Proctor;

I have some other books from this series which have been disappointing but this one is a cracker, packed full of top quality colour photos of RAF aircraft and ground personnel with many photos that I have never seen published before including 14 Sqn Canberra B(I)8`s, Phantoms, Lightnings, Pioneer, Twin Pioneer, Vulcan, Valiant, Victor, Javelin, Whirlwind and many, many more!

Very Highly Recommended Indeed!

Blue Diamonds- The Exploits of 14 Sqn RAF 1945-2015 by Michael Napier;

The follow on from the first book `Flying Crusaders' this book covers the rest of 14 Sqn`s highly interesting history, most of which has been spent serving overseas. Starting off with Mosquito`s, each chapter covers the aircraft types employed by the unit and among the personal stories and anecdotes the Cold War years of the unit are brought to life and also illustrated with an excellent collection of photo`s, many of which come from personal collections and have never appeared in print before. There are also colour side views at the back of he book covering each type employed by the unit since 1945, covering Mosquito, Vampire, Venom, Hunter, Canberra, Phantom, Jaguar, Tornado and the current Beechcraft Shadow. Again this book comes Very Highly Recommended.

Cheers

Tony

Edit; This article has appeared in The Mail written by Ian Proctor which contains a few of the photos from his book mentioned above, well worth a look if you like colour 1950`s-60`s RAF Photos;

  • 2 weeks later...

Having flicked through my copy last night, I am finding much to inspire me. BUT.. page 21 has an error! Photo shows a Spit, Hurri Hunter and Javelin. The Hurricane is mistakenly quoted as "LT383" when it should be LF363. Shame really, I expect there are other typos that will be irritating. Oh well. On the whole though, some excellent photos even if some of the poses by personnel looked very much posed :winkgrin:

It is good to see some new reading on the RAF since the war, and even better to see some new original pictures.

Agreed. Though a fair number of the pics are well known but a greater number are new, to me at any rate, but a fine production.
