DDR Marinefliegergeschwadern 28 - Su-22m4 - Eduard/Kopro 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I think I need a companion to my Marineflieger Tornado.

So what better companion than an DDR Su-22.

This will be a long one since I have my MiG-29 in the Lesser built Airforces to finish and I'm going to participte in the Fancy French GB.

So this build will play second fiddle for sometime.

So what do we have here.

A East German Su-22m4 from Marinefliegergaschwader 28.

I'll be using Eduards issue of Kopros Su-22.

And since this is Eduard it means that you get some extras in the form of resin and PE.

Kopro plastic.

Resin and PE

None of the option in the box contains decals for DDR, so I bought the most expensive decals (USD 32) I've ever bought.

A sheet from Cutting Edge, Fancy Fitters.

I've started to clue some parts together.

WP_20150214_15_02_28_Pro_zpseb5cec59.jpg

Droptanks, a pair of R60 missiles from Eduards MiG-21, CH-29T's and a B-8M1 pod from Trumpeters Su-24 kit.

ECM pod from the kit, not in the picture.

Hi.

It's been awhile since the last update.

I've been to busy to find the time for some serious building.

But a few minutes here and there will also produce some results.

This is jow my Su-22 looks right now.

The airframe is primed and ready for some silverpaint in the intake.

The cockpit is done.

I´ve done some work on the ordnance.

WP_20150402_08_06_48_Pro_zpsetp1vhbf.jpg

I'm going to use two AS-14 Kedge missiles.

But I've got to repaint one of them.

I found the missile rail in Eduards pylon set for the Su.25.

I didn't use them when I built my Su-25, but they will come in handy for this build.

Thanks Skids. :D

I hope you're sitting comfortably.

This will take some time.

I've got my MiG-29 and the Fennec to complete before this.

But I'll do some work on it from time to time.

Great choice of aircraft to build!!!

I have fallen in love with these, I built a Soviet Naval Aviation Su-17M3 (used the other Eduard version) for the Swing Wing GB a couple of years ago.

Plus have the Kopro version of this one in the stash with heaps of AM stuff, plan to build the Luftwaffe version.

Good luck with the build, will be watching this build very closely........to pinch ideas! :D

Thanks Werner (i do hope I got the name right).

I've seen that set and I'm more than a bit tempted to buy it.

But what do I do with the rest?

Can the Su-17/22 carry the Kilter missile on the wing pylons?

it is just an idea.....

I myself scratch build the pylons according to 4plus plans. look very much the same...

I don't think the Fitter can carry these heavy weapons elsewhere, (and I believe they cannot land with both heavy weapons, so nee to fire at least one! - not ideal for peacetime training missions!)

I plan to use the Kilter missiles and the vjuga pod an a Peruian Su-25 UBK two seater.... and they look definitely better than Trumpeter's from the Su-24 kit!

actually,. I have a 3rd set from Cutting edge long out of production, but also very nice for boh te Kh-29 and Kh-58... so go figure ;)

best regards, Werner

Thanks for your input guys.

I think I'll try and scratchbuild the pylons and use the Ch-29's I already have.

Now I just have to find the time to get this build somewhere.

Hi.

A very productive weekend at the worktable and with icehockey on the TV is almost at it's end.

Since my Desert Fox is in the drying stage, I've concentrated on the DDR Su-22 today.

I've glued the cockpit in place.

WP_20150517_16_08_59_Pro_zpspsnru2ei.jpg

No problems to fit it.

After that I got the nosecone in place.

WP_20150517_16_13_06_Pro_zpshimbdvhw.jpg

Nothing special here either, I just had to sand the nosecone frame in a few places.

And after that the exhaust just dropped in place and everything inside was done.

I had expected a bit more struggle to get everything inside, but not this time.

And with everything inside in place I closed the fuselage together.

WP_20150517_18_32_15_Pro_zpsnsmblsnd.jpg

No troubles here either.

I did wedge a thin plasticard strip on the underside of the nose, but otherwise it didn't fight me at all.

I've added the airscopes to the fuselage.

WP_20150517_19_11_24_Pro_zpskylb6n9e.jpg

I know that Quickboost does a set, but this isn't to complicated to fix yourself.

It took me around an hour to fix all six airscopes to resemble something more than just square wedges.

WP_20150517_19_45_17_Pro_zpsvhazeekh.jpg

And this where I am at the moment.

To be continued...
