1/72 Planet Models resin Gloster F.5/34 - restored links

One of the newcomers into my stash, bought last autumn on E-day in Prague. But as a love at first sight it made it to the top of the pile immediately in order to become my next project. Somewhere I have a real soft spot for Henry P. Folland contraptions.

The kit looks quite a straightforward issue with the one-piece wing, white metal undercarriage and just a few small parts. Studies of the (rather scarce) references did not reveal too many details missing among the resin parts either, so most probably I will add just the landing and navigation lights, the prominent underwing pitot tube and some cockpit details. As I am going to build the first prototype, I do not have to bother with the eight gun ports either.

The interior presented no significant challenge. The assembly was seamless, the fit inside the fuselage is excellent – including the instrument panel decal.

The fuselage/wing assembly went quite straightforward, the filler in the back was needed mainly due to my ham-fistedness while removing the (rather fragile) resin casting from the fuselage.

And I also decided to complete the wheel wells after seeing the photo below.

The angle of the horizontal tail surfaces looked a bit suspicious, so I did a test fit today and indeed someone in Planet Models did not have the best of his/her days while designing these. Rather unexpected sanding seems to be inevitable here.

With all major sub-assemblies having been – well – assembled, time for painting is getting closer.

Lovely! I've long wished there was a cheaper, more mass-market kit of this one around. The possibilities for "what-if" builds are vast. I'll be watching this with interest.
