The_Lancaster
Hi everyone, Bringing you all photos of my next finished project, the old Tamiya M8A1. It is my first open top AFV so it was another new experience for me! The model kit is a nice enough kit, although it is a bit soft on detail in places as it was designed as a R/C toy (oh the joy of removing the on/off switch from the bottom of the hull). Even so, the kit wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I painted it with a range of Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics and Humbrol Enamel. I tried a new weathering technique of spraying a thin red-brown coat of paint over the lower hull to simulate whatever sort of grime and dirt that built up down there. And I think with a bit more tweaking on future builds, I might be on to something. Tamiya supplied a sprue of accessories, this just included equipment, weapons and helmets. I did a little detail work on the helmets by using masking tape painted brown and cut into thin strips to replicate helmet straps. I also painted the white bar across the helmet to signify NCO. I'm not sure if that was just a thing for D-day but it made the helmets a little more interesting. The .50 cal came with the option to have the ammunition box open so I took advantage of that to add a little more interest. Thanks for looking guys and next I'm going to move to some German stuff and crack on with Tamiya's Panzer. IIC of the Polish Campaign. Again, thanks for looking and any comments or constructive criticisms are welcome. (oh, the tonnage decal, yea, me and decals never get on!) EDIT Just got myself photoshop, and after a while of playing around with it I thought I'd try giving one of my models a virtual diorama and here goes below!:- I gave an 'Artistic blur' to tone down everything and give it a more 'blended' look. Looks more like a cavalry vehicle in the forest now! actually gives me some inspiration to do the thing in a diorama now so maybe sometime in the future. Thanks for looking again! robw_uk
very nice - beginning to look to add Allied vehicles to my stash - this variant has caught my eye a number of times (love the fact there is an interior)...

The_Lancaster
Only just noticed, left the headlights unpainted painted them in Humbrol metallic silver. Also I painted the rear lights red (Humbrol gloss). Not going to show up any pics but you get the idea!

The_Lancaster
Very nicely done, lovely interior as well was never able to get the chipping as good on mine To do the interior I used a stiff brush and dry brushed the interior using Humbrol's 'Metal Cote' Gun metal to achieve the effect. I then went and touched up the interior with a fine brush to get some more of the finer scrapes and dings in the recesses.
