Shar2
I have been stuck in the house for close to two months now with a partially slipped disc and other lower back problems. Due to one thing and another I really haven't felt like modelling even though I had two Elves sitting on the bench all primed up ready to paint. So after a chat with Mike yesterday he persuaded me to get this one out of the stash and build it straight out of the box. I was going to add some turned machine gun barrels, but will now save those for a later build. The kit is a little awkward, particularly in getting the fighting compartment panels aligned, but I used the interior rhomboid to act as a template and all is good. The number of wheels is fun, but they positively lock into one half of the rhomboid allowing just a tweak here and there to get them all lined up between the two halves. The rhomboid section in the picture isn't glued yet, hence the clamp.
Panzer Vor!!!
Chop chop buddy Looking good I wonder how this build compares to Tamiyas kit?
Stesca
Great stuff, I have this one in the stash.
Shar2
Once you get the hang of them, the rhomboid sections go together really easily. Then it was on with the sponsons. Although each panel is separate it's amazing how well they go together. the main guns are really well detailed, just a shame that they won't ever be seen. The only area where I've need to use filler has been between the gun shield sections. The metal barrels come with the kit.
Stesca
Great progress, I am looking forward to starting mine.
Shar2
With the main parts of the hull and sponsons fitted, shes' nearly ready for paint, just a few detail bits of PE to add. I've left off the exhaust and rear box structure which will be fitted after detailing and painting. The kit tracks defeated me and since life is too short I decided to buy Takoms moveable track links, which just clip together straight out of the box, with minimal clean up required. These really should have been provided in the kit instead of the five piece links. In about twenty minutes of receiving them from Creative Models the two runs of track were complete. A couple of check fits to ensure the lengths were correct and the job was jobbed. Here they are just clipped into place.

Tarheellaw
If this is a quick build I may do this one this weekend. I know nothing about WW one tanks. They look like fun kits.
Panzer Vor!!!
Looking good shame that the track links in the box are such a pain
Shermaniac
I've still to build my MkIV & MkIV 'Tadpole' but I picked up the clickable MkIV Track from MasterClub at SMW, Telford before the Takom sets were announced
Shar2
Finally managed to get some paint on. I did a bit of pre-shading and will probably do a bit of post shading too, once I've added the ID stripes. The it's onto the weathering.
Chris B
A very nice build. I do like these Takom Mk IVs having now made the Male, Female and Tadpole. One query. My monitor shows the base colour as green. Is this what you intend? When researching for the finish to my Mark IVs the current thinking seems to be that they would be finished in 'Tank Brown'. This is discussed in Dick Taylor's recent Warpaint Vol 1 at pages 31 to 38 and his suggestion is "a light tan/brown colour not the dark chocolate that has often been assumed". I used a 50:50 mix of Tamiya XF52 and XF55 as the base colour. Chris
Shar2
Thanks. Yes the colour is as intended. I've seen them green, brown and apparently the first ones were grey. You probably won't see much of the colour once I've finished weathering.
bigbadbadge
Hi Dave, looking great, keep up the good work. Could I ask what colour the green was as I am building a Whippet at the moment and am nearing the paint stage and am torn at the mo, I am almost erring towards Olive Drab and then lightening it where appropriate. All the bestChris
Shar2
Chris, I used Lifecolor Khaki Drab for the main colour. I'll use faded olive drab and other shades, over the base layer.
