lespaul
Hi, Ive just used some Vallejo primer on a white metal part and have found that it doesnt stick at all well? The paint just lifts off! Am I doing something wrong here or is it the wrong type of primer for white metal? Thanks
John Aero
I don't know Vallejo primer and it might well depend on the metal composition or on a proper etch primer. Halfords Primer is the only one I've used. The model railway folk don't seem to have problems. John
D1fuN0
Citadels White Primer is excellent for White Metal bits.
Breaker
Alclad will sort it as well. I don't rate Vallejo primer at all. It does go on lovely and smooth but I've found it lifts quite easily.
rayprit
Halfords primer.....used for priming bodywork on cars............never fails.......just ask sales assistant at Halfords for Body primer for repairs to bodywork on car..........after you buy it - keep it in the airing cupboard with central heating boiler in........keeps the paint ready for spraying at the proper temperature whenever needed
AngstROM
I'd give any metal bits a good clean-up with white spirit first, then a gentle sanding with a fine-grit paper. Tamiya Surface Primer/Fine Surface Primer is good for metal and plastic, quite honestly I wouldn't use anything else.
whitestar12chris
I only ever use Vallejo surface primer on vinyl as a base for acrylic paints. All the best Chris
Nigel Heath
Tamiya and My Hobby both make special metal primers: They are all clear primers. I've used both the aerosols and they work well. Alclad and Tamiya regular primers also work pretty well on metal but these special metal primers seem to give a little better adhesion.
