Recommended Posts

Started today - Ki-45 'Nick' from Hasegawa - this is a limited edition boxing with a special scheme

P1000601_zpskkkb8c32.jpg

Lots of nice details in the cockpit for OOB, as is normal for Hasegawa

P1000602_zps0crtiif0.jpg

Laid down a base coat of Gunze Khaki thinned with Mr Levelling Thinners by 50% so that it sprays in very thin layers.

P1000604_zpswg5b1ptw.jpg

Picked out the details on the control column, using Vallejo Model colours, and a light oil wash

P1000605_zpsyk5zlxuf.jpg

Picked out the base details in the cockpit, once again with Vallejo Model colour

P1000607_zpsstvu6oll.jpg

Drybrushed the Instrument panel with white, then a black oil wash. Then used some Ammo Crystal Colour in the instruments, and pick out some of the switches. Followed by a light brown oil wash to start dirtying the whole cockpit.

Same procedure on the Radio, with the Liferaft painted Olive Drab, and the spare cannon magazine Gunmetal.

P1000610_zps751cgaqn.jpg

Finally picked out the details on the fuselage sides and gave a brown oil wash.

Today's work - first completed the weathering in the cockpit - added some chipping with a Prismacolor pencil, some dirt with pigments, and some fuel stains around the filler cap.

P1000613_zpshve0fxtd.jpg

Then joined the fuselage together - given that this is the fuselage halves, the cockpit, 2 insets and the bulkheads it required some 'help' to stay in place while the glue was drying.

P1000614_zps139ce2dp.jpg

Then on to assembling the nose section.

P1000615_zpsnasziufm.jpg

The gunner's position

P1000616_zpsxpvqus8o.jpg

Being an inset on a Hasegawa kit, it needed some Mr Surfacer to blend the nose in.

P1000617_zpsjzbqfcg6.jpg

Build up the Nacelles - again insets abound, which makes this slightly tougher than normal.

P1000618_zpswp3y5ds5.jpg

Rubbed back the Mr Surfacer with a cotton bud moistened with IPA

P1000619_zpsybvpajos.jpg

Weathered down the Nacelle interiours with 'Engine Grime' and 'Engine Oil'

P1000620_zps1zysmae4.jpg

Fitted the wings - was left with a small gap, which was filled with Vallejo Plastic putty.

P1000621_zpsmjkv4z7i.jpg

Finally fit the tailplanes and rudder mass balances, and run some Mr Surfacer 1000 along the upper wing roots.

looking good ! what an elegant airplane.

I have a Nichimo ( or two..) on my shelves waiting for a destiny.

I guess the Hasegawa is better in some details according to your work.

nice work so far.

First, Alclad grey Primer over the top of everything - a couple of touch ups with Mr Surfacer, but nothing major.

P1000629_zpsjmtyve9h.jpg

P1000630_zpsbpmc6vqq.jpg

Sprayed the Grey Green XF76

P1000632_zpsetxbkchw.jpg

Finally spots - XF13 Green

Today - First a coat of Klear over the top of the cammo

P1000634_zpszt4ip9ng.jpg

While that was drying, made up all the parts for the Props and Undercarriage and Painted them.

P1000635_zpsggvcvcrd.jpg

Then the decals. Typical Hasegawa decals, thick, and quite brittle. Set down reasonably well with Mr Softner and Mr Setter, but did need to use some DACO Medium setting solution on the Hinoramu to get them to settle properly. Then another coat of Klear over the top to draw them down and protect them ready for weathering tomorrow.

P1000639_zpsaei3drr8.jpg

P1000640_zpsph7rfv2o.jpg
