Mirage GB chat

Enzo the Magnificent

Recommended Posts

Hi Enzo,

I'm not on the list- I think I was a bit non-committal, but now I see it starts in June, so count me in with the Mirage III NG!  Also, you might want to update post #1 to give the start date.

  • 2 weeks later...

The GB is a couple of months away which means there's still time to do a bit of research, raid the stash, get the right decals and even the AMK 1/72nd Kfir to turn up.

In the meantime for inspiration, take a look at Habu12's Mirage 2000 in RFI here

Mine arrived today and in just a look through it is brilliant, even if most of the writing is in French. Plenty of colour schemes, and differences between variants.

Mine arrived today as well.  A superb book.

Likewise, mine too arrived today, very impressed, I particularly like the section which shows the differences between the various customers sub variants - who knew there's so many little subtleties to catch us all out?

Very good value,

I was already tempted when I saw Patrice's link, now after reading the opinions here I've also ordered the book, looking forward to receiving this.

Not surprised if it's a good product, I hold the French specialised press in very high regard, the various hors-series from Avions for example are excellent and a number of publishers have issued some fantastic books.

As this same morning I've also ordered an RV Mirage III-E, I'd say that this GB is responsible for more and more dents in my bank account... :D

And one is missing about Mirage F1CG... after upgrade in the early 80's - where AN/ALR-66 RWR is added, Mk.6 ejection seat is substituted  for the previous Mk.4 - new flight recorder is added and the access panel (on the both sides), located just in front of the elevator is enlarged due to the more important size of this new recorder...

before (here on Mirage F1BQ) : http://aviapassionmaquette.free.fr/IMAGES/PHOTOSCOPE MIRAGE F1BQ CAEA/F1BQ CAEA 026.jpg

After (same place but larger) : http://www.redstar.gr/Foto_red/GR_AirF/F1CG/DSC01138.jpg

Well, it's nitpicking, after all...

I broke down and snagged the Wingman Belgian Mirage kit on sale last week.  Unbeknownst to me at the time, it includes options for a recon variant (Mirage 5BR)!  :o

To be fair it does mention the MB.6 and the pesky AN/ALR-66 in a caption on page 29 (although it doesn't show the antenna).  No mention of the FDR, that is too subtle a difference

Good spot though!

Yes, about Mirage F1CG, the only missing point is this access panel. And it is not necessary to show AN/ALR-66's antennas, they are the same as those of BF, the difference is just the color, black instead of grey ! ;)

here, you can see the difference : Morocco used BF first and then changed its RWR by AN/ALR-66, the same chosen by HAF and you can see on the picture Mirage F1EH on the foreground already equipped with AN/ALR-66 and its black antennas and on the second Mirage F1 the grey antennas of BF not changed yet. All this before Astrac upgrade program...:P

Wow would love to see a III NG here! Someday I'll tackle it too but I really look forward to your build. Which kit will you use?

I have been thinking of having a go at the Milan but I doubt I could get it done in time, maybe a IIIS/RS or Iraqi Exocet Mirage instead!

edit, in fact I still don't know what to do, too many good subjects!

Hi Guys, does a Dagger/Nesher count for a Mirage DB as a drivative of the III? Just aquired a couple from coli (freightdogs).
