nick32
Hi, i figured it's about time i participate a bit more in the forum and seeing as i'm attempting Eduard's Profipack Sherman i will do a WIP thread.. This is only my second tank, the first was Tamiya's 1/35 Cromwell, which was super easy compared to this Sherman. Not that it's hard as such, just quite fiddly in places. God help me when i build the Dragon Tiger that'd hiding in the wardrobe...... There is a really good review of this kit here - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234970692-m4a1-sherman-tank-135/ I'm building mine as option A , Hellcat - Anyway, i haven't taken many photo's but here is where i'm at - I've made use of the photo etch that comes with the kit, i'm usually pretty crap with the brass but so far i'm quite pleased, although there is a gap to get rid off between the fender's (is that what they are called?). There's still quite a lot to go, tools and various little brackets etc etc. There's also a gap where the transmission housing meets the hull, no idea why but a bit of filler should sort that out. Next is a pic of one of the bogies. So far i have built 3 of these, there are lots of parts to each one and they are a little fiddly at first but they look good when done and are functional. Finally i have the gun assembly. The kit barrel is plastic and comes in 2 halves, i had been recommended that a metal barrel would be a good move to get rid of the seam line, so i scoured Ebay and found metal barrel for a couple of quid, i think it was an RB but can't 100% remember. And that's pretty much where i am with it at the moment. So far it's been an enjoyable build, it's not quite gone together perfectly for me but to be honest i'm putting that down to my lack of talent more than any shortfall with the kit. The big test for me will be when it's time to paint and weather it. Thanks for looking! Nick

The_Lancaster
Well armour is more forgiving to build as mistakes are easily masked! I built Tasca's Firefly and its a very nice kit. Good luck with yours and I'm watching with interest!
nick32
Thanks for the encouragement guys, it means a lot. For those after an M4a1 i really recommend this one - I haven't built any others but this one goes together real nice. Not much progress to be honest as i've been unwell but this is now where i'm at with it (quick pic taken on my phone, will do some better ones soon). Mad, i haven't really made any mistakes as such, it's just some of the parts are very very delicate and cutting them off the sprue takes a bit of care (and holding of breath..) The bogies are a bit fiddly to put together at first, and make sure all the pieces go on the right way. I wasn't careful enough and had to gently prise the first one apart to rebuild it properly. All in all though it's a great kit and worth the cost (I paid £32 at Telford for mine). I do have a question for more knowledgeable types though.. The kit comes with an awesome looking .50 cal gun to mount on the top, but not for the version i'm building. I would like to make it as accurate as i can, but i really want the Hellcat decals with a dirty big .50 on the top. Would it have been possible that at some point a gun could have been fitted? I'm not really sure when they would have been fitted... Thanks for looking, Nick
Stesca
Great build coming along nicely, sorry I can not help with your question as I am not massively up on Shermans.
nick32
Cheers Steve, thanks for the compliment. I think regarding the gun i'm just going to go with it, it will add a bit more interest to the build (and look pretty cool..) Nick
swordfish fairey
Great work so far Nick, you can never have enough Sherman builds on Britmodeller...............Smudge
foxy
Hi Nick. I think you are safe to mount a 50.cal on your Sherman. AS far as I am aware they could all carry them, so go ahead mate. Just because you see a picture without one on, does not mean it was not fitted. Will look nice in any case. Foxy
nick32
Sorry for the delay guys, been a bit busy with real life to do any modelling, let alone updating the forum. But she is in paint, and with decals on. Apologies for the poor quality photo's, my DSLR is elsewhere and the phone on my camera is rubbish! (How people get decent phone camera pics is beyond me..) The gloss coat was still drying hence the finish looks a bit rough, but i'm happy with it so far. Its a superb kit from Taska/Eduard, highly reccomended. Now i need to think about weathering it..... nick32
Cheers guys, i'll take some better quality photos as soon as i'm able. I can't recommend this kit highly enough, the fit is spot on and it just looks so good as it's starting to take shape. The Eduard etch just adds to it, although i haven't used it all. The straps for the tools for example were just too fiddly for me. The decals went on easily, and i'm really looking forward to trying out some weathering techniques. I'm also thinking about making a simple diorama base for it. Thanks again, Nick

Ozzy
Looks good so far, I do like the tasca kits, I've built a couple of them. Cutting the foam for the bogies was intresting for me. Ozzy

Radpoe Spitfire
That is a beauty, well done so far Nick. For me personally, it's one I must buy, a late and very dear friend's family own a Canadian built M4A1, now fitted with US track and sprockets. Been meaning to do a model of his tank, now I'm inspired to. Thank you for sharing your brilliant build. nick32
Hi again chaps, my mojo has been a bit absent of late but i have managed to nearly complete it. Just a few little bits to attend to and i'm goingto attempt a small diorama base. Thanks for looking! Nick
nick32
By the way, does this kit have both the 1 & 3 piece front hull transmission armour ? Regards Adrian Hi Adrian, i believe it does yes. I know i said this before, but it's a stunning kit to build, easily on a par with the best that Tamiya offer in terms of building enjoyment. I will be buying and building another one at some point, its not a cheap kit (this one cost me £32 from Telford) but in my opinion is easily worth it.
