Douglas A-1H Skyraider, Hasegawa 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This time i would like to introduce you my A-1H Skyraider.

The kit is the Hasegawa and is very accurate and easy to assemble. The only critics I have is that it has no good options for the ordnance.

I used a Print Scale decals sheet with the Mig killer markings.

I had many problems because the decals are too thin, impossible to slice without folding on themselves. The other problem with these decals is that are incorrect. for example the numbers should have 90º anlges instead of 45º and other inaccuracies.

Anyway for me the result was good and I hope you like it.

I´ve searched on pictures of real Skyraiders and noticed that most of the times, htey were very clean, except for the exhaust stains and some oil leaks on the underside. I used pastels and oil colours to do that.

Please feel free to comment and all sugestions welcomed!!!

best regards

The uruguayan guy...

Ignacio

Forget about the decals inaccuracies... Nobody would notice them! And your build is superb!!!

Great Spad all around!

Always nice to see a model of a sandy made up, nice marking option too, well done! I hope you enjoyed it even though had some decal difficulties!

Excellent Skyraider!

From my point of view, the decals look great. Nice paintjob and very realistic weathering, too. May I ask how you did archieve the fading of the black walkways? Air- or/and drybrushing? Looks very good!

Cheers,

Mario

Hi Mario!! I did not use the decal walkways. I painted them and then use some grey oils to makeep it look faded and/or dirty.

I really love that you all like it guys, thanks very much!!

Hi Ignacio!

Thank you for your quick response. Tried some weathering with light pastel chalk over dark surfaces before and my weathering effect disappeared with the next coat of clear. Learned a lot from your post - also that ALF was from Uruguay :)

Cheers,

Mario

Mario, I don´t know what other modellers would say, but I do not apply clear over the pastels. i know that on light colours it can disappear. Just never touch it again!!!

Haha regards!

I always seal pastels either with gloss or flat clearcoat. Otherwise I find handling a problem. And if the model needs a clean-up in a couple of years, it´s even more problematic.

Best regards,

Mario
