Airfiled defence

Does anybody have a good reference or indeed references for the vehicles used by the USAF for airfield defence in Vietnam? I think I've read that they were mainly scrounged and improvised from what could be found & bartered for from local army units.

Thanks very much.

I know the title is spelt wrong, but I can't figure out how to change it. Ah well.

Depends on your time period as the type of equipment changed through the conflict.

USAF Security Police units ultimately ended up with the V100 Commando for this role late in the conflict.

Yes they probably used M113s, gun jeeps and maybe the occasional armoured truck but most major airbases were multi-service operations so there would have been US Army and ARVN units in and around the base anyway.

For the Vietnam era I believe the USAF military police used the early M113 and M113A1 and the V-100 as the XM706 and XM706E2 variants, along with the usual M151 Mutts.

As far as I know the weaponry was generally the same as used by the US Army and Marine Corps.

The USAF never had its own organic equivalent of the RAF Regiment charged with airfild defence (or defense,,,,).
