Mk. Ib Typhoon

Recommended Posts

This is the Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon. This was a test for attempting a stressed skin effect. As with most anything new, I found out how not to do a few things to achieve this effect. I used Barracuda’s cockpit, intake and exhaust resin sets. The Cockpit was about the best resin cockpit set I ever have used. The fit and the crispness of the castings were well above average. I also used CMK control surface set, Master Reality cannons, Aeromaster decals, and Model Master paints. All in all this was a fun project; other than the stress skin, which was very time consuming. The outside photos were taken with my Fuji camera set to auto. No Photoshop used.

Nice work Rod.

I like your quest for realism and aim to follow your lead.

The stressed skin effect is rather time consuming is n't it? It does, however, take a model to the next level in my humble opinion. It's not to everyone's taste but I like it.

One observation I'd like to make is that the panel line wash appears quite obvious on my monitor and makes the panel lines pop. It is one area where your model deviates from the realistic look a bit. Was that intentional?

With that said and given how good this is, I'd love to see what you could do with the 1/24th scale Airfix Typhoon.

Thanks for taking the time to share your project.

Cheers.

As the others said above - I thought that was the real one. I was scrolling down looking for when the photos of your model started! Brilliant model building skills and photography!! Well done.

There are three types of models. The cartoon version. The artistic version and the realistic version. My ideal is what you've just made. I took a look at the other photos on your photo page particularly the F111 and the F18. I was utterly impressed. This is my ideal. Basically a real aircraft miniaturised. If only I had the ability to work to that standard.
