caretaker13
how can I get the textured effect of vinyl on a woody roof? there's tight compound curves so painted tape is out. I thought of lacquer thinner and letting it craze the plastic but don't think I can get an even finish overall.tried a search but no luck; any help appreciated. Av8fan
Found this forum with a few ideas: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=28359 But they also mention: Testors model master vinyl top spray paint Here is a thread in their tools and tips: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=27431&hl=vinyl I think that the 3M technique in link above looks pretty good. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps. Edit As always, practice on something besides the kit first Edited December 20, 2014 by Av8fan
vinnie the panda
When I was in smart repair we had a texture spray for replicating the black plastic bumper inserts on cars, you mist it on, lightly dry flatting between coats till you have the desired effect. http://www.smartexpress.co.uk/products/U%252dPol-Aerosol-Plast-%27X%27-4-Fine-Texture.html I must say though I do like the look of that 3M stuff if it can be purchased here.
