Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, This will be my first project of 2015, the Tamiya 1/12 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 Special Colour Edition motorcycle. I am struggling to decide which colour version of the bike to do. I thought maybe a poll would be the way to go. Please select the option you prefer. Version 1 Version 2 I personally like Version 2, however am still unsure which version to go for. Look forward to seeing the responses. Will get the sprue shots of the kit taken soon. Cheers, Rick Edited January 31, 2015 by Rickpadwick1801
John.R
Looking forward to watching this one progress, I've voted for option 2 though
Rocketcrazee
Waiting for this too begin. I went for option 1 thought the red in the flames added to the white Phil
Mafney
Tough choice between the two, but I went for option 1. I can see this turning into a case of building one of each color scheme!
Billydick
Yes tough choice indeed - went for version 2. BillyD
Riggers
Rick, Version 2, but loose the red at the bottom & go for matt black throughout! That'll look much better IMHO ATB
Rickpadwick1801
Hi Everyone, I am really looking forward to this one, it definately won't be a case of building 2 kits so I have both versions, but this could be deadly as I think it will make me want to build more Tamiya bikes as the quality of the kit looks amazing. So far Version 2 is the clear winner according to the poll. Anyway here is the boxart and sprue shots. Graham77
This kit is great, I did it on here a few years back and went for option 2. I think I'd stick with that but be careful some of the flame decals on mine silvered a bit and it shows up big time (until a bit of setting solution sorted it). Have fun it's a lovely kit and goes together great.

Your build was one of the reasons that made me buy the kit. Rick
Rickpadwick1801
Help Needed : I am looking for paints for this build especially an equivalent to the Mica Red gloss as I am not going to be using spray paints on this build. I already have a Tamiya black paint to use. The paints I am thinking of using are Revell Fiery Red or Ferrari Red acrylics. Can anyone tell me if these will be suitable for this build ? Rocketcrazee
Hi Rick Have you thought about using a rattle can for the Mica Red, Tamiya have some great colours in their range or pop down to your local Halfords ( if in the UK) and find one in the car paints,Lots of choices there Phil
Rickpadwick1801
Thanks Rocketcrazee, I've sorted it yesterday, I've just got a standard tamiya acrylic red to go with the black the I've already got. Will be starting work today:-) Edited December 15, 2014 by Rickpadwick1801

Steve Noble
The TS-39 Mica Red is a metallic colour Rick, didn't know if you were aware.? You could use a regular Ferrari type red, but it will have a very different look to the Mica Red..
S.Tasker
I Built one in white and both look good, although it does look beautiful in Kawasaki green also! Edited December 15, 2014 by S.Tasker

Hi Steve, No I wasn't aware that Mica Red is metallic, however I am happy with my choice of paint colour as I'm not fond of spray paint, beyond primer. I am aiming for a different look anyway, especially as the Tamiya black I have got leftover from a previous project is glossy. Thanks, Rick I Built one in white and both look good, although it does look beautiful in Kawasaki green also! The kit does look great, but I'm not starting to paint it yet as I am full of a cold and the last thing i need is to sneeze and put paint in the wrong place. Will be starting soon. Rickpadwick1801
I have got the kit all primed, but have realized that the kit won't look right in gloss black paint so am going to buy a tin of tamiya xf-1 flat black paint so that it is matt finished. Personally Rick, I would paint it gloss black and apply the decals onto the gloss black then seal it with matt varnish for the final finish. If you put the decals onto matt black they will silver really badly. Just my opinion..

Thanks Steve, Luckily I haven't got the paint yet, I just hope there is enough black left to paint it all but we will see. Does it matter whose varnish I use ? And also can I brush paint it ? Riggers
Rick my friend....you can use anyone's gloss so long as you do either: water based over enamel BUT NOT enamel over water based! If you have the Pledge/Klear, yep brush it straight on as it's a self leveller...if not, brush using a wide, soft brush with long strokes (to stop the dragging effect with the bristles of the brush). For ease as well, get hold of Vallejo Gloss, Satin & Matt varnishes...they are a breeze to a) spray & brush on. Superb results too. Sorry to nick your advice thread Steve..... ATB Rick & don't forget those photos......

Jockster
Did my Christmas shopping on one of those today Rick, so looking forward to your build. ZZR1400s should only come in black, grey or green. Best bike I've ever had!

ZZR1400s should only come in black, grey or green. Best bike I've ever had! Nice choice. I love ZZR's as well, don't have one, but have worked on both versions. I have just completed 2nd coat of the black for the body panels, still got the fairing to paint black yet but thats going to wait. I haven't done any assembly on the kit yet, so photos are going to have to wait till i have done some. Rick
