AModel Be-12P - Long awaited updated - In paint

Hi guys,

Now the He-111 is done, I've moved onto some smaller kits in hope 'the smaller they are, the more chance of finishing', that's the plan anyway. I've never built a 1/144th kit before so it's something different too and I'm also learning that AModel isn't a Tamiya fit kit.... no bother, keeps the cogs working 'n all that.. I think it will make a nice little kit though when done, providing I can do it justice..

Some photos of the progress so far,

Fitting the wings... it was either sand it really thin and keep the wings level, or have the wings level and a slight ridge, so I went for the ridge option and smoothed out with filler, looks better in the flesh and I'm happy with the result.

Another 'small' kit in the background is the Hasegawa Tracker, being converted into a Fire Bomber..

Where it was at yesterday, engines are now sorted, just sorting out the boom on the rear then the tailplanes can go on, then the bit I'm dreading, the glazing,.. I'm half tempted to just paint it then paint the windows in...?

Thanks for looking,

Nice work, Radleigh! Amodel can be a bit of a challenge, but I love them for their subject matter, lots of weird and wonderful subjects like this one. And a bit of a challenge is good for keeping the modelling skills sharp, as you indicated.

Regards,

Jason

This picture describes better than a thousand words the experience I had with a number of A-Model kits...

Yes, they are not easy builds but they turn into very good models with some work and they are generally accurate and well detailed. It should also be said that more recent kits from the same company show a much better fit.

Nice choice, looking forward to seeing more !

Thanks guys, really enjoying this and I wasn't expecting that being 1/144th... however I'm not looking forward to using this -

Bad fit of clear parts, going to fill these in and paint. The nose glass I will polish and I think I will mask off and see how it looks, but I might just paint them in.

Rear boom is also a bad fit, will blend all this in now with the tail....

The wing route.. need to tidy up the panels lines with a scriber.

Great work so far.

A-Model do make some kits of interesting aircraft, it's a pity that they don't go together a bit better but then again we are modellers not assemblers and you are doing a fine job.

I built one of their HU-16's a few years ago and the end result was definitely worth the effort.

Thanks guys,

Wow! Looks like a challenging build for sure.

Never tried 144 but I think I'm now inspired to pick a suitable subject and have a crack. :guitar:

Chocks away!

I didn't think I would do a 1/144th kit, but my funds are at a minimum at the moment as we're trying to grow our business, so this is a better option for me really, cheap and cheerful. I will get the Modelsvit 1/72 Be-12 when it comes out though!

Great work so far.

I don't mind putting in the little work where needed, it's looking good now, I sorted out a few of the fitment issues last night and made a start on prepping areas for the etch, will post a photo update either tonight or tomorrow.

Radders

Lil'update... The rear end boom is all flush and sorted but I forgot to photograph it.. however I've started on the tiny etch you get with this kit and not having used etch before (well I did as a kid on a Dragon Fw-190, but it looked... ), I was a little anxious... it's not that bad though, cleaning up of the parts was the hardest part, but I managed to gently go along the edge once fixed with a sanding sponge so it is now nice and smooth..

Little bit of cleaning up to do, but other than that I'm happy..

I am off to Malta Saturday for a well earned rest after a full year of working, so no more updates from me now until the new year, I'm back on the 28th, but then down in London seeing family... so I hope you all have a great Christmas & New Year and thanks for looking in..

Radleigh. :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Progress has been a bit slow with a house move looming, back ache :violin: and just very busy at work...

I've managed to get all the etch spats on now, just a bit of cleaning up needed around the join, also the nose glazing looks worse than it is too, as it's two parts the actualy windows are clear of glue.

and the rear boom on, needs a bit more work to get rid of the uneven top.

Nice job Radders my old fruit...great looking plane. You know what I think of Amodel stuff, (love 'em in case you forgot..proper modelling material and great subject matter). Modelsvit is pretty similar but seemingly better quality mouldings. The PE's fun isn't it !, I use Gator glue on the smaller parts and slow drying Zap on the longer bits, (secret is, bit at a time). Should be done soon then..
