I've been waiting for this. Shame it comes with the same inaccurate markings as the Airfix kit.

Well, I remember researching this aircraft when I was going to do the Airfix version (it ended up in the bin!) and there seems to be some debate over the red cowling and '2'.

 

Apparently it's more likely that the aircraft was 'black 2' and the cowling painted in a dark grey or green - red was not a very popular colour for tactical markings on the Russian Front!

 

I could of course be doing Eduard a disservice. Maybe red was used in this case, in which case it's not inaccurate at all. But it could also be an artistic interpretation that has become accepted wisdom.

 

Maybe someone has some more information?
