What's flying over your house? Thread #2

We had taken the self propelled temporary house on wheels down to Littlehampton this weekend, for most of yesterday we were treated to a low level flying display of clouds with added rain.

This morning was clear and bright with some cloud cover so I hoped for better, I got this early on in the shape of a Mustang which looked to be finished in RAF markings flying west in the direction of Goodwood.

Later in the distance we caught sight of a Spitfire and another warbird flying in formation, couldn't make it out but it wasn't another Spit', just after we got back from walking the hound we were overflown by a Hurricane (with sky undersides and roundels), so I'm guessing the Spit' we saw earlier was up with the Hurricane.  The Hurricane was flying east.

Just experienced a Blackhawk 4-ship (going by the navigation lights) pass over the flat.

It's about a quarter to eleven at night here and pitch black. Should I be alarmed that I can recognise a Blackhawk by sound?

As I was watching the sparrows on and around the feeders in my back garden, a sparrowhawk struck. It was in and off before they knew what was happening. The sparrowhawk perched on our neighbour's roof for maybe thirty seconds and then flew off from whence it came, dangling its unfortunate victim from one of its talons.

I wonder if this is the same bird I've seen before, as the attack (using the apex of our roof as cover, then popping up at the last moment) was the same. All the strikes I have seen previously were unsuccessful, but this one was about as perfect as one could imagine.

Just this minute had two US Navy Seahawks flying south at low level following the coast past Montrose , seen US Army and USAF examples of the H-60 family before but a first for the USN , probably connected with the USS George Bush and escorts currently somewhere off the north coast of Scotland.

At 1940 flew West along the Ochils near Stirling.

Nice surprise for a Friday evening!

Maybe heading to Prestwick?

Was it bright and sunny enough for them to catch that lovely evening light that hits the Ochils in summer or was it as dull, grey and miserable as it was up here?     Spent the first 45 years of my life in the Falkirk area with the Ochils as a backdrop.

Have not seen if they turned up anywhere else last night but possibly a navigation exercise from the ships off the Western Isles along the Great Glen , down the East Coast and back home across the Forth-Clyde Valley with a fuel stop or two along the way if needed , be nice if some of the jets were to do the same.

Was a nice sunny evening.

Being only half a mile from the hills, they stood out nicely, grey against the green/brown of the hills.

Would be nice to get some jets doing the same, don't even get C130s anymore

Odd innit. Don't see a type for decades, literally, and then several sightings within a week or so.

Last night, 1700, Short Skyvan.  Flight path and height suggested it had just taken off from Brize.

Some sort of wobblychopter went over this morning. I was in the shower so I didn't see it. Could've been a Robbo 22 or 44, or any of various local others including a Dauphin, a Gazelle and a motley collection of Mr Bell's products , but was most likely the local rescue 412.

Where me and the self propelled temporary house on wheels are west of Southampton, a Gazelle in RAF trainer colours, any sort of Gazelle is a rarity these days, let alone one in a military colour scheme.  It was heading north.

Lincoln, early this afternoon as Her indoors and I walked up the high street.

That unmistakable Merlin sound, and then The Lancaster flew over with a

Spitfire in a close trail formation. Then they went around and came over again!

Fabulous stuff. Should be done every hour, on the hour. I'd never tire of the sight.

Its all go here in Tallinn at the mo'.......Loads of US ANG A-10Cs in town....couple of UH-60Ls zotting around too.

Yesterday the Spanish must have done a scramble as two EF.18A Hornets went over the city at max chat around 4.00pm......they don't do that on a Sunday unless something is up (literally). I'll be sorry to see them go at the end of the month....The Belgians will be here with their Lawn Darts which have nothing on the Bug.

Back in the early to mid eighties, I used to see a Dak fly over my town every night, around 9.15PM. I got so used to the sound of it and if I was outside and it was summer, I'd always look out for it.

It was really sad when it stopped coming. I often wonder which airframe it was and which operator was flying it.
