Revell Boeing 747-8F and Zvezda Boeing 747-8I

Recommended Posts

The Boeing 747 is still one of the most elegant Airliners around today and the new 747-8 proofs that the "Jumbo" is still the queen of the skies.

The two kits are of a great quality in terms of accuracy and fitting of the parts and the build is quite smooth.

The Cargolux 747 was recently completed, the Lufthansa 747 in early 2013.

I tried out the Revell Aqua Spray cans on the Cargolux for the first time but I must say that they are not really up to the test.I still prefer the Tamyia Spray cans or in the future I will also opt for a new Airbrush set.

For the Zvezda 747-8I i chose the Lufthansa scheme and the decals used are from Backdoor Decals and some from the Revell Lufthansa 747-8I that I purchased later on as well.If I had known earlier that Revell will come up with that kit I could have spared me the extra bucks on the aftermarked decals but what the heck...

I will build the Revell 747-8I in Air China colours as aftermarked decals for that are now available.

Enjoy

Both look stunning ! Gave me confidence for the -400 I'm currently starting. This plane -no matter what version of it- is surely very elegant !

Beautiful builds Alex.

I'm working on a NCA 748F.

I had my Revell 748i almost finished when my desk lamp collapsed on it. I'm still not sure whether I should strip it back and start again or bin the whole thing as it is.

Thank you.

Ohh thats too bad :( .I would consider to get it fixed depending on the progress you had made on it.I am sure its worth the effort.

Thank you Jeano.

The Revell -400 is somewhat of a mixed bag.The nose section is in wrong shape and it needs some work to reshape it and the wings are placed in the wrong angle.Don't know what Revell was thinking when producing that kit.But then again its nicely detailed and as far as I know the only -400 in 1/144.

I have one of it in progress but I stopped for a while to rethink the method to reshape the nose.Had not the nerve yet to go on with it but I will give it another try.

Yeah, correcting the nose was the first thing I did, at least tried. Using putty is easier than I though … It's quiet fine so far. I might make a WIP by the way.

A very fine looking pair there. What grey did you use for Cargolux? I started on this and struggled to find a nice grey that i could spray. In the end I settled for Tamiya AS 3. I think it is a tad too dark but the finish is very good. I've only had it under basment lights so will judge it in good daylight when the sun next shines in Nova Scotia (probably April!). I'm currently in the decal stage but a TU-154 has crept up on me so that is taking a bit away from it. If i can get it looking half as good as yours i'll be happy! (I'll be even happier if I can complete it without breaking any more undercarriage lol!)

Cheers now

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the nice words.

For the grey on the Cargolux I used the Revell Aqua Color spray cans. The number for it is 34371.

I was looking also first quite some time to get that grey tone because I usually use Tamyja spray cans for my kits. Then I found out about these Revell Cans. They are ok but a little difficult to handle. The spray head is a bit big so you have to handle it with care and try to press it slightly otherwise too much color will come out.I needed a few tries but then it came out well.

Good luck with your forthcoming builds. The TU-154 is also a superb subject.I also have a few of these waiting to be completed
