I think it may have something to do with scratching plastic :penguin:

great job on the tires

Thanks, wanted tires as fenders but couldn't find any suitable hollow ones. Rather rudimentary but hidden between ship ad quay painted to look bald I reckon they will do.

Nice detail work, so much so that you leave me nothing to be rude about!

Thanks Martian, reads like my old school report - must try harder ;-)

Bonkers!

I will be happy to wear that hat

Rob mentioned about the HDML which reminded I  had recently found the guns I had built for this in 1/35. This is long ago before the days of Italeri aftermarket set, all scratch built bar barrels

40mm Bofors with I think RB barrel

The shield is not an attempt at battle damage ..... To close to bulb when I was trying to speed dry

I'm getting better!

Thank you Martian but don't stop taking the pills I sent you .....

A bit more progress on the myriad of deck fittings. Im trying where ever possible to make a positive location so that I can paint the deck and then add fittings. This is 'A' for security of fitting 'B' Make life easier painting the deck.

Rear cowl vents and ready use lockers positioned. Not a lot of space around the engine room hatch.

The white circle(s) just below the oil drum have been causing a lot of problems involving tubing and rod in plastic, alloy, brass etc etc. all of which went in the bin. It is the sounding point for the bilges in the various compartments and would consist of a round deck plate with a plug/cap! Simples! Not for me, after going all around the houses I finally had the idea of two discs. :banghead:

Next we move forward.....

Bullring, anchor lead and drip tray around the winch

Wow - Elusive!

I've checked my John Lambert "Allied Coastal Forces Vol 1 and John Lambert "The Fairmile D MTB" (but so have you!)

These are all the references I've come up with after a good 40mins on t'interweb

http://ontheslipway.com/?cat=9

http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205203849

https://www.shapeways.com/product/CS3KZJZJ2/1-350-denton-rafts-x50-hms-hood

https://www.shapeways.com/product/MGYWU6ES6/1-200-denton-rafts-x48-hms-hood

HMS Hood is obviously mentioned and there references to survivors from HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall clinging to Denton rafts but cant find much else.

However - Coastal craft do rafts that look identical as CCA72042 badged as "Small Carley Floats".  They appear in they up to date paper catalogue but not on the web site which is not updated.

Kev - Shout if you want me to scan the entry

Thank you Martian, look in the bin all the c**p is in there ...

Rob, thanks for your efforts. I'm glad it's not just me

1st link is the one I found

2nd link cracked me up

3/4th are just copies of the Hood site

I've since found a reference in an old 1951 (hell that's older than me) " Admiralty Seamanship Manual " . 3' x 3' expanded rubber covered in ply with lifeline and tow rope. It's like a good detective story, little by little.

If you could scan it that would be great, no rush.

Thanks to all who have looked with nothing to report

Cheers Kev

Prompted by your efforts Rob I thought I'd go through all my books and ref pics, looking in dark corners for the Denton floats and came up with the following

So it seems there was two types, so time for some artistic license

  Ain't it always the way  :wall:

Nice finds.

Kev - this is slightly Off piste but do you have any pics that you can think of  - relating to a Fairmile B Navigation leader?  They had a radar mast instead of a funnel and several were used in Overlord to guide Landing craft.  There are several line drawing in "Allied Coastal forces of WWII Vol 1" but no pics.  I have found one single pic in "British Coastal Forces of WWII".  I'm in the planning stages (as sis so often the case!!!)

Thanks

Rob

Can't think of anything off the top of my head but I'm at the stage where SWMBO puts a label round my neck when I go out

I will have a rummaged and see what I can come up with. I never seen "British Coastal Forces of WWII" in the flesh so to speak, is it worth getting. One thought, I'm pretty sure the HDMLs were fitted with the same radar would that help?

Be back when I've had a nose....

Great to see all the reference coming out for this build

Pull up a chair & swing the lantern ...... warning brass was hurt in the making of this lesson :wicked:

Today it's emergency steering. I'm using Aber SV-07 Etched hand wheels, centres removed. I also want to show the benefits of using solder paint.

Setting out

Paint applied before top disc placed
P1040816%20Copy_zpstcbqor3u.jpg

Application of a micro torch (just a touch)

P1040817%20Copy_zpsvjfgcqro.jpg

Looks a mess

Cleaned with Acetone and a stiff brush
P1040821%20Copy_zpsnrhlpysi.jpg

Clean with fibreglass pen
P1040823%20Copy_zpstfvlskrg.jpg

As you can see no mess, no fuss and no great gobs of solder. All I did was clean the brass, no flux and they all stuck first time. Belive me I'm no expert at soldering. To give a sense of scale the wheel is 9.5mm diameter overall.

With pedestal, undercoat....

and the emergency tiller

Incredible detail, solder paint looks interesting but I hate using fibreglass brushes I find them in my fingers days later but...they get the job done.

Regards Richard.
