TPReggie
Hey everyone, I know the topic of primers has been done to death - so not asking what I should use Just checking if any of you use this, or have used this.....for aircraft as I don't really build armour. I am still struggling to find a primer I am happy with, so the search goes on and I was wondering whether giving one of these a try would be worth it. http://www.migjimenez.com/en/18-acrylic-primers

little-cars
Halfords is always a good backstop. The newer Vallejo and 'new' mig products are always useful if they are one of the colours you need to paint. Paul
TPReggie
Thanks guys, I have used the Tamiya primer in a can too, but find the pressure and spray area a bit much. I have not as yet tried to decant these as I only have the 1 airbrush and dont want to ruin it or harm it by by using anything other than the Acrylics I usually run through it. May have to look into a second airbrush - 1 for primer and 1 for paint I suppose.

I cleaned mine using Revell Airbrush cleaner. I did it regularly without an issue. I have now switched to Alclad primer as it is airbrush ready and use cellulose thinners to clean my airbrush. The main reason is so that I don't have the hassle of decanting and degassing as I did with the Tamiya primer. Hth Tom. Jakey
Just spotted this thread. Just wanted to say to anyone who may be reading this... I would absolute 100000% recommend avoiding Mig primer as much as possible I recently accidentally purchased it instead of the AK one. It was about £5 for a small roughly 100ml bottle. When I sprayed it, it seemed too thick instantly, so I barely used it and added some thinners. I added vallejo thinners, as on the back it said "We recommend you thin with out acrylic primer!" Knowing that I've never had a paint go wrong with vallejo thinner, I tried it. It instantly went blotchy and was useless. Cleaned out my AB, used some Mr Color Levelling Thinner Same thing again, blotchy which rendered it entirely useless with huge air bubbles. Next up came Tamiya X-20A, same thing. Tried Cellulose thinners... guess what? You guessed it! Blotchy! Next came IPA, tried 70% and 99.99% concentration. Have you worked out what happened yet? Got it in one! I then tried Utiimate Modelling Products thinner - Usually think this stuff is pretty crap; I was getting desperate by now though. Same thing... I had dwindling supples of stuff to try. Probably the least used thinners in my range followed: Vallejo AB Cleaner Humbrol Acrylic Thinner Water Alclad II AB cleaner Ultimate Modelling Products Cleaner Diall paint Cleaner Odourless Turps AKAN Acrylic Thinner (I even stooped to the level of Vallejo brush restorer!) None of the above worked Bearing in mind, this took me hours and I was slowly losing the will to live by about 3 quarters of the way through... I never did find anything that helped, so it went straight in the bin the very same day I got it. Don't mistake this for the AK one; they're polar opposites. The AK one is far and away the best primer I've ever used, the Mig one was a big fat fail of a primer, which honestly should be taken off the market. Also, the MIG one was also tried on different plastics, at different pressures, and even I used a brush at one point. Utterly useless.
