Ferrari 458 Italia. Revell 1/24.

Recommended Posts

Well as you can imagine, bench time has been not much.

But I did manage to decal the disc and wheel.

And closer view of the disc..

All that is left to do with these is varnish and assemble.

Cheers for colour call out Roy, if I/we had a stand alone model room, but we build our kits in the front room.

Bad enough priming, so we use acrylics for most of our builds, and some Alcad.

All comments welcome.

Hi all, not much done but that is life.

Wheels have been finished.

Radiator finished.

Both have been fitted to the chassis.

FBOT%201_zpsy3pwx2fr.jpg

FBOT%204_zpsvsyyynrz.jpg

FBOT%205_zpsjcd5lrsf.jpg

And this pic shows what you will not see when she is finished..

FBOT%206_zpshflwudjt.jpg

All that leaves now is the body work and small bits.

Steering wheel and paddle shift.

Engine bay cover?

Air-box.

The glazing.

So a lot of masking coming up,yet again.

But the light is at the end of the tunnel, just.

As usual, all comments welcome.

this is the point where most modelers start to lose interest and begin building a new kit! dont fall into the trap fella :)

I don`t think I will fall into that trap Imster, I already have 5 other builds going on.

That is a bit of a bummer Mike, I will be careful when I come to that stage.

Auw, that's not good. Hope Revell sends a new piece.

If they don't, take a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN8hePvnsNk

At 9.30 minutes in the video they talk and show how to remove a glue stain on a clear part.

And I think the glue stain is alot deeper then scratches?

If Revell dosn't send a new one and the sanding trick does not work. Let me know.

I still have a Revell 458 I messed up a while ago. The glass pieces are still in the bag.

Cheers Mike, I will do if I need to.

A bit of a bummer, but that is modelling for you.

Latest update.

I had a letter today from Revell stating that they had received my email ( sent Monday ) and that the part would be here in 4/6 weeks.

They are sending it from Germany and for free.

So well done Revell, it will put things back a little but at least I can get on with other stuff.

Mine was cracked as well... something to do with the way it's moulded on the clear tree and the way it's packed, I reckon. Revell got me a new one in about two weeks. The good news is that it just drops in from the outside (I'd heartily recommend "Formula 560 Canopy Glue" for this purpose, BTW), so you can finish everything bar attaching the windscreen wipers without the window in hand...

bestest,

M.

Cheers Matthew, looking at the attachments points/area it should be too bad.

There is a semi matt black surround to the screen which should hide any seepage.

I have got some Revell Contacta which is not to bad for clear parts,

But I will keep my eyes open for some of the gear you recommended .

Cheers all for the great comments (and help).

Well , as I wait for the windscreen to arrive, I decided to attack the bodyshell.

After a rub down with some 3000 grit paper, she had a couple of light coats of Alcad white filler primer.

I have decided also to paint the lights/vents before the main colour.

The vents are Tamiya X10 Gunmetal, the surrounds X18 Semi gloss black, with X11 for the backs of the rear stop lights.

The lens were coat in X27 clear red.

REAR%20LIGHT%201_zpstky0i8zh.jpg

With both lights done.

REAR%20LIGHT%202_zpscqbox1mz.jpg

The lens were fixed with Revell Contacta Clear.

A little tidying up to do around the back there.

The vents will get a wash of black before sealing with satin Varnish.

Once that is done, time to get out the masking tape and tranquilizers .

All comments welcome.

Right then the vents got a black oil paint wash , the excess being wiped off after a few minutes.

These were given a coat of gloss varnish to seal.

The rear ones were then fitted into position.

REAR%20LIGHT%203_zps5ldy0ffv.jpg

This and with the rear lights fitted, should make the masking up a bit easier.

Also gave the engine bay surround a going over.

Alcad Airframe Aluminium over gloss black base.

BAY%202_zpsfclckc7l.jpg

I know it looks a little grey but the main part is black.

I shall leave that overnight to dry before painting the details.

All comments welcome.

Can i ask you which Tamyia spray should i use for the wheels? Which kind of Alu (i'd like to paint my wheel set like the rims in the photo )?

kahn%20monza%20-%20ferrari%20458%20white

Hi Overtorque, I used Alcad Polished Aluminium over their Gloss Black base for my wheels.

Easy enough if you follow the instructions but do give it light coats with the lacquer and give it plenty of time to cure when you have finished .

Also worth given them a coat of clear varnish to protect them .

A quick update.

Finally got the bodyshell masked.

body%2011_zps8ala4luy.jpg

Not forgetting the quarter light up front.

body%2012_zpsfttsq6t6.jpg

Also the engine bay cover has been tarted up a bit.

Why I don`t know, once that airbox is on , you ain`t going to see a lot.

BAY%205_zps5likx3lc.jpg

Just the airbox to finish off, then both parts to be varnished before decals...

All comments welcome as usual.
