Ferrari 458 Italia. Revell 1/24.

Recommended Posts

Well after building a few wingy things, I decided to build a wheely thingy, as such.

Well SWMBO said that I should build one for our son Shane who is car mad.

So to the stash I went and found this little beauty, it will be the nearest he gets to owning a Ferrari...

This is the basic plan, there is not much visible of the engine once in place, even though the rear hood can be displayed open, there is a bloody great big air-box that sits on top of it .Also the interior is OK but again how much will been seen I asked myself.

All the chrome bits were stripped with bleach.

The disc brakes were basically moulded.

Discs_zps095aff53.jpg

So I drilled them out.

These were primed and given a coat of Gloss Black Base for further painting later.

The engine was given a coat of primer, then Gloss Black Base before a coat or 2 of Air-frame Aluminium, the cylinder heads were coated with Alcad Polished Aluminium.

The details were picked out in semi-gloss black and RLM grey,

The chassis has been sprayed a mix of semi gloss black and silver (both Tamiya acrylics) and now masked for the contrasting panels.

Other than a load of parts primed and ready for base coating is it for now.

A quick shot of a dry fit.

Well, a new year has started so I thought I would post a bit more of this build.

As it has been the festive period not a great deal has been done.

So with out a fanfare.

And the seats, masked that is.

Next time I will paint the front and back first before glueing them together.

I hope to get on with some more of this car during the week.

Happy new Year to one and all.

Well here I am, back again quicker than I thought.

The apathy has worn off and with the first day of semi decent weather I set forth and got some bench time in.

Started with the engine, not good, the inlet stack came away, damn, it can stay off until I fix the air box on, much later in the build.

Gave a light coat of Tamiya X 19 Smoke.

Eng13_zpsac9737e0.jpg

A quick fag and coffee break then onto more.

The cockpit tub was given a coat of Tamiya XF 69 N.A.T.O. Black.

Quickly on, I then added some Tamiya XF 27 Black Green and some Tamiya XF 63 plus a bit of Tamiya Clear X 22 to the black what was in the pot.

This was applied to the cabin roof, door panels , dashboard and seats.

A short break , done some shopping then back to the bench.

Out with the Alcad this time.

Their Gloss Black Base was applied to the suspension parts.

After another coffee break , a coat of Alcad Polished Aluminium ALC 105 was misted over.

Once all was done ,I retired for tea as Nigel would say.

After a refreshing meal, I took the masking off various bits including the chassis.

And I almost forgot, one of the seats.

Thanks for looking.

A grand job so far, very neat and tidy

I bought this kit as a started build, body was painted, I got on with it and realised they had left the rear hatch unpainted and I dont know what colour they used, so back in the box it has gone until I can be bothered to remove the paint and choose a colour for it,

Well hello folks.

Its has been a long time since anything was posted so here is a quick update.

I finally got round to doing a bit of spraying today.

A coat of Dark Iron to various panels etc, just to add some change.

FP%203_zpsmystuzwy.jpg

FP%204_zpsdbbu0zl8.jpg

FP%207_zpsxgcs4qfs.jpg

I have also painted some other bits too, the rear lights and the air scoops that mount on the sides of the main body work..

Hope to get more done soon.

Well a quick up date.

Roof liner finished except for satin varnish.

FP%208_zpszf1dt6wt.jpg

Also the rear lights ready for installation.

Seats are ready for varnishing too, but gloss, there is a decal to go on the headrests.

FP%209_zpslz6cvmj7.jpg

Finally for tonight, the central console, that also needs a coat of gloss varnish for a decal.

Hope to get more done later on.

Paul, I used household thin bleach neat, in a takeaway container, if they fit in you can put the lid on,(stops the smell).

As for timing just check every hour or so.

This method will probably work with most chrome plastic parts.
