buzz
A great visualization from NATS of a typical day in UK airspace. Mainly civilian activity but some military too, including what I gather (from someone else's post on another site) is the manic circular tracking of an AWACS orbit area used by various militaries' aircraft as their radars provide top down radar cover for their war games when they're out over the North Sea or low level over Northumberland. Nice music as well http://nats.aero/blog/2014/11/take-guided-tour-uk-skies/
Paul J
Fascinating. It goes to show what goes on and how much of an important job ATC does. It would be great to see a similar vid on Air traffic over North America!
Paul Bradley
Very cool - having just made a transatlantic round trip, it really brings home how busy UK airspace is.
HP42
That's pretty interesting, I see what you mean about the AWACs in the north of England, definitely wearing a hole in the sky there. Is it actual movement data or a typical representation?

Is it actual movement data or a typical representation? That E3 orbit is over my house ....sometimes I often wonder if it is going to disappear up its own .....exhaust ! Normally one orbit every 21-23 minutes . Andy

bobgpw
My colleagues and I play a small part in that video... You should see what the airspace looks like on a bad day, when everyone is avoiding weather or we temporarily lose a runway somewhere! Great fun though, and a great bunch of people to work with (even the pilots!!), I feel very lucky to have managed to blag a career in ATC.
