stevej60
Hi folks, with the TSR2 well on the road to completion I thought another entry would be Revell,s new tool Spitfire.I rushed to get this kit back in the summer and made a Start then lost interest as I was in the middle of my 1/24 Hurricane, here,s the kit parts and the basic cockpit built,so to give myself a break from my ongoing USS Fletcher build every now and then I hope to get this one finished as despite the well documented issues it is a superb kit. stevej60
Hi folks, yesterday I managed to drop the plug for my compressor so thats the USS Fletcher on hold for now so a little more detail work on the spitfire. I have finished the port cockpit insert and fixed in place as you can see.The kit comes with a plain seat which Revell tell you to paint interior green but I notice from Stix build(from which I am nicking ideas) and past builds were made of a sort of brick red bakerlite so I have painted it red and added padding from blue tack and painted after scoring with a knife. Also although it won,t be really seen I have painted the aluminum areas on the fuselage sides which I had never realised were the case. Thanks for looking.

stevej60
Hi all, well got the cockpit in and fuselage and wings, tail etc cemented in place and (sorry to the purists) home made masking tape harness. The wings were already assembled without any hassle and here,s a shot of the wheel well which is enclosed with a one piece molded insert which fits superbly and is a credit to revell,s designer,s thanks to Stix for the inspiration to try and do the cockpit a little justice.

stevej60
Thanks Lee, it is a superb kit fit wise, only one area needed filler and that was due to carelessness on my behalf.
PlaStix
As I've just mentioned on ScanmanDan's RFI thread; between your's and his builds of this kit I'm getting more and more tempted to have a go at a bigger Spitfire! Your's is looking excellent and I really like what you've done in the cockpit - and your harness looks fine to me. Keep up the good work.

ScanmanDan
Great looking Spitfire. It looks as if you are having as much fun as I did. These simple, nicely detailed and easy to assemble Revell kits sure have recharged my modelling batteries. I look forward to seeing more of your Spitfire. You are a brave man attaching the tail wheel now. I'd have knocked it off in a nano-second Dan Edited November 27, 2014 by ScanmanDan

stevej60
Hi all, here,s the latest progress, masked off and earth brown applied with no issues pleased with the smooth finish. I have now brushed the first coat of green on with a flat brush(why did I not discover these years ago?) it will probably take a good three coats as I have well thinned the paint. PlaStix
I can see what I might need to ask for for Christmas this year! Looking good under paint.
stevej60
Hi all here,s todays progress.Three coats of thinned Tamiya paint and I am happy with the covering achieved. I really think that the Humbrol flat brushes lend themselves to hand painting especially in the larger scale.so next time I can get the table out it,s time for the gloss varnish and get a wash into all the lovely detail Revell have given us.Thanks for now.
PlaStix
Nice looking camo Steve. Yeah I use Humbrol flat brushes and they are very good. Looking forward to seeing how the wash shows off the detail.
stevej60
Hi all,day off so got the sky band painted yesterday and coat of gloss on the airframe.I will leave it till tonight and get a second coat as this kit has some lovely rivet detail which needs much more of a "sludge" wash rather than the simpler panel line treatment of my smaller scale models.
stevej60
Hi all, grabbed an extra modelling time this morning so finished the exhausts,I may have got this wrong but looking at some restored Spitfire photo,s I noticed the exhausts before heavy use were a sort of sivery/gold colour, now that may be due to modern materials but rather than just paint them my usual brick red with a dry brush of black I have replicated that finish and the dry brushed the black and ran black into the openings as I am finishing her in a reasonably new state. Thanks for dropping in.
stevej60
Hi folks, after a day to dry I,ve got the main decals on,Revell have done a superb job with the decals they settle really well( thankfully as I am not a user of any setting solutions etc).So next job will be the undersurface decals and then a wash which should bring out the lovely recessed details.
