billybookcase
I finished the Typhoon a few weeks ago, but wanted to liven it up a bit. So I bought the Tamiya Rally mechanics crew. A bit of adjustment to them should make them look like WW2 ground crew. And some home made ammunition belts and spanners. I hope to add someone working on the rockets. And possibly a base with grass and stuff. Progress so far. Thanks for looking. BB

billybookcase
Update. Painted the mechanics, I don't know if they should be darker blue or black? Made a jerkin for the rocket loader out of duct tape, is there nothing this stuff can't be used for? Started scratch building a bomb trolley (type F), I might do a type C as well if there's room for it on the diorama. Bought a leccy fly squatter from Maplins for 2 quid and converted it to a static grass applicator, but haven't tried it yet. Anyway, piccys. Mechanics mostly wore coveralls, that started out black I think, this has some neat bomb trolley details too. again, dark, one thing is sometimes grund crew have letters/numbers painted on the back of the coveralls, note chap by engine below, and chap by bomb hoist above. I have seen a close up from this session, but note the faded and oil stained coveralls in this neat work so far HTH T
billybookcase
Thanks for those Troy, very helpful. Black it is then, I don't know where I got the idea they were blue, as I already have one of those photos. BB
Biggles87
Eagerly waiting to see the dirty erks. It should be quite a challenge, well it would be for me, but I'm sure that you are up to it. Haven't seen the picture of the 'swamped' Spitfire before, very nice. John
Devilfish
I did a lot of research into this when I built my 1/24 Hurricane diorama a few years ago. The overalls were available in white, tan/brown, dark blue and black. On some stations certain trades like to stick to certain colours, but a lot of the time the guys just took what they could get... billybookcase
Lovely diorama Devilfish. Is that static grass, or a sort of carpet tile? BB
