IanHx
Anyone know if the Sabre flown in Korea by Jim Thompson actually had wing fences ? The few 1:1 scale pictures I've seen would suggest not, but every single model pic in google has them ....
Yury Tepsurkaev
Yes, it had so-called 6'-3' wing with "hard" leading edge and fences. Edited October 31, 2014 by Yury Tepsurkaev
Giorgio N
This aircraft was an F-86F-1 and as such started its life with the early slatted wing. However it was retrofitted with the 6-3 wing (fences but no slats) before becoming "the Huff"
Jennings Heilig
The extended chord wing conferred a huge increase in high altitude maneuverability on the F-86. So much so that a crash emergency program of retrofitting them was implemented for units in Korea. Mod kits were sent to the depot at Tachikawa AB, Japan, and aircraft were ferried there for installation as soon as possible. I'm not intimately familiar with the details of that airplane, but it's a safe bet that if it was in combat after (IIRC) mid-1952, it had the hard wing with the fence. Tony Edmundson
Here is "the Huff" with a 6-3 wing. Wing fences are there, just out of the view. Edited November 1, 2014 by Tony Edmundson

dragonlanceHR
Here is "the Huff" with a 6-3 wing. Wing fences are there, just out of the view. If the wing fence is not visible, a clear hint of the 6-3 wing is the small triangular piece of wingroot that has to be removed to open the ammo bay, just as in your photo. Btw thanks for posting these, I have the Academy kit in stash. It just got moved nearer the top of the to-build pile. Vedran

Tony Here's 2 pics that were sending me down the wrong path : and I suspect that either these are different aircraft painted up to look like "The Huff", or I need to go to Specsavers..... Giorgio N
The aircraft in the pictures above is not the original Huff but a warbird painted in the same colors. It's actually a Canadair built Sabre mk.5 but with the wings of a mk.6. IIRC the slats were locked closed on this one. The same aircraft is now in Canada

The same aircraft is now in Canada The wing is not a Sabre 6 wing it is a wing from a F86F-40. It has the engine from a Sabre 6. The slats were not locked up on this aircraft when it was in the States painted as the HUFF, there are plenty pics available showing the slats dropped when the aircraft was on display at Oshkosh. The slats just happened to be pushed in and will stay there until the aircraft is disturbed then they will drop back down. Driver66
Is the question whether the sabre has wing fences or the dragon? Always thought dragon aerodynamics might need some tweaking.

Regarding the slats I must have confused this with another Sabre, maybe the one at Titusville
