Pete610
Just for discussion purposes - has anyone had a look at or purchased any of these that are doing the rounds. Basically they are a range of plastic 4mm/OO gauge/1:76 unpowered models. They seem to be based on moulds from differing manufacturer, e.g the 28xx 2-8-0 GWR goods loco derives from a previous version of the same loco from Hornby, the Jinty seems to be from the Bachmann stable etc. They seem to range from quite adequate versions (like the Gresley A4) to really pretty average to poor (IMO the HST power car), with the better ones having detail features like separately applied handrails (A4) and the poorer ones having moulded into the plastic handrails. I have bought the Jinty to use body parts from it to detail a Hornby RTR loco and will be using the 28xx for parts to detail a couple of GWR locos Edited October 26, 2014 by Pete610
Pete610
Had a chance to look at the Jinty body a little closer as I dismantled it, into its component parts The boiler offers a prototypical under the boiler daylight - which the Hornby chassis does not allow. The detail around the coal bunker is excellent and should transplant fairly easily - coal rails and retaining plate... The whistle is both more accurate in shape and size than the Hornby offering - but unfortunately made of flimsy plastic. Biggest let-down is the lack of separate handrails
