F1 Insider
Chaps/chapettes, As you will no doubt ascertain from my screen name I like to build a whole different type of wingy things. However.... I've been harbouring a desire to build a modern (as possible) Red Arrow but would like some advice on what kit would be the best to go for? Thank you muchly in advance. Love you bye! Paul J
What scale? Airfix do nice kits in 1/72nd and 1/48th. Italeri also 1/48th or there is the big one to 1/32nd by Revell.
Black Knight
Personally, I'd go for the new Airfix Hawk in 1/48 with the 50th Anniversary markings.
F1 Insider
I don't really know what scale. My display cabinet is perfectly sized for 1:20/24 sized models so something that sort of physical size (not scale).
Black Knight
The Hawk is a surprising large aeroplane. A 1/72 one will take up about the same room as a 1/24 '63 Corvette. But as you are used to working in 1/24 I'd say go for a 1/48, you may find 1/72 too fiddly.
Richard E
I don't really know what scale. My display cabinet is perfectly sized for 1:20/24 sized models so something that sort of physical size (not scale). A Hawk is 11.9 meters long, has a wing span of 9.39 meters and is 3.98 meters high, which scales as: 1/32 scale: length - 372 mm, span - 293 mm and height - 124 mm 1/48 scale: length - 248 mm, span - 196 mm and height - 83 mm 1/72 scale: length - 165 mm, span - 130 mm and height - 55 mm

F1 Insider
Does anyone know if the Airfix Hawk T1a kit (1:48) is a suitable kit to build as a Red Arrow? I only ask as it would appear you pay a premium just to buy the Red Arrow kitkit as opposed to a normal Hawk kit. Thanks again.
Julien
1:72 scale Airfix red arrows here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234969408-raf-red-arrows-hawk-50th-display-season-172-airfix-starter-set/ 1:48 will be up as soon as I can get it done.
