Dave Fleming
Harvard II, same as the Canadians? http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/t-6c-to-head-uk-military-training-renewal-405203/ Plus Embraer Pheon to replace the Beech King Airs Edited October 24, 2014 by Dave Fleming
tonyot
Cheers Dave, Is the Phenom based on the old HS125 design? Also, will the T6C replace the Hawk T.1 in service as well as the Tucano? Will any of these wear RAF markings? Seems a shame to privatise training but hopefully most of the instructors will still be RAF/RN service-people and that the privatised bit will be the servicing, aircraf ownership, ground school, infrastructure etc? All the best Tony
bentwaters81tfw
They had a T6C at Waddo this year. Announced then it was the new trainer,
Paul J
The Phenom looks like the Hawker but is quite a bit smaller I believe. Quite a nifty exec jet too! The Beechcraft T-6 seems a good choice too. But the biggest shame is none of these are UK designed or built.

A lot of training has already been privatised - the entire helicopter syllabus, if memory serves, and the Thursday War is now done under contract. I loathe privatisation but training is about the least unsuitable activity to be done that way.
Paul Bradley
Hawks won't be replaced in the advanced training role, according to the article. Good. Wonder if the T-6Cs will carry RAF shadow squadron markings? Do the helos?? Edited October 25, 2014 by Paul Bradley
mackem01
Shameful that we have slipped so far that we cannot produce our own types At least we are getting new replacements though.

Wonder if the T-6Cs will carry RAF shadow squadron markings? Do the helos?? Yes, the Griffons are 60 Squadron, and the Squirrels have AAC and FAA squadron allocations. The Beech Kinairs have 45 Squadron markings. The T6s might get shadow allocations. I would imagine the T6s and the Pheons will be on the military register, the Grobs may follow their Tutor older brothers and be civil.

tonyot
The Hawks at Valley are already civilian-maintained... I did know that Pete, I`m friends with one of the blokes who works there, I just meant that I hope privatisation doesn`t extend much further than this. Hopefully it will be along the same lines as the DHFS at Shawbury, and go no further than this? Paul- The article only says that Hawk Mk.2`s will remain, there was no mention of the T.1, which is why I asked whether the T.1`s will be replaced by the T6 too and not just the Tucano. Surely the T.1 would continue flying with 100 Sqn, the Red Arrows and FRADU/ 736 NAS,....or will they just bin the type altogether as a cost cutting measure? Dave Fleming
OSD of the Hawk T1 is 2020 if I recall correctly. I beleive the MFTS stream will be Grob - T6C then either Hawk T2 or Phenom (which I have learned to spell!)
