vrsmatt99
Hi There, I am currently making a Car model that has been sprayed with Alclad colours and Alclad Clear. I have nearly finished putting all the decals on and will be looking to do the final clear coat. My questions are: Can I spray the Alclad Clear Lacquer over the decals safely (Old Tamiya kit with decals that have had to be rescued using Microscale Liquid Decal film) Or even better can I spray Zero Pre thinned Clear (Not 2 Pack) over the Alclad and decals safely? I normally use Zero paints and am happy with the results I can achieve with the clear but have not had a lot of experience using the Alclad. The body colour has come out really well and I would be gutted to ruin it at the last stage! Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Matt
colin
You can, but need to be careful, light coats first, nothing too wet or the decals will react to the thinner, ask me how I know.
vrsmatt99
Thanks Colin, I have sprayed the Zero Clear over decals many times and like you, learnt the hard way about the mist coats first!! Will the Zero Clear will be ok over the Alclad Clear? Cheers Matt
colin
Alclad paints are lacquer based so should be fine, Alclad clear, is lacquer based too so again should be ok. There is a Alclad Aqua clear which is water based, I may try sealing the decals in with that next time before I top coat with zero clear.
shood23
Zeros clear is fine over decals just obviously don't start with a wet coat and with using it over alclad my best advice is to ask Steve at hiroboy if they have done it before. Or just roughly spray up a plastic container in the same way you have the model and then try the zeros clear over the alclad yourself, which to be honest is the way i would go coz then you can see any little reaction with your eyes instead of a response through an email Shaun Or alternatively you can use alclad aqua gloss over it then there's no chance in ruining the decals or paint and unless you already know it it does spray on very nice Edited October 24, 2014 by shood23
