MPC Millennium Falcon

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

So I found out lastminute.com that it was a friend at work's birthday coming up (13 Oct). I found out 2 weeks before and had no money to get him something half decent. I did have a few evenings free and an unallocated kit sitting in my stash. He is a massive star wars nut and so I decided to build him my MPC Millennium Falcon.

It's true what they say about this kit. It's a total pig. Terrible fit, inaccurate proportions and lacking in details in every department. Due to the severe shortage of time, this is a straight OOB build. I spent one week on build and construction and the following week on painting and weathering. I'm not massively happy with the build, but my mate was over the moon with it though, so thats the most important thing. :)

I know I overdid the rear section pigments, but it was real late and I was tired and so lost concentration. Apart from that I was pretty happy with the painting and weathering.

Apologies for the poor quality photos, I didn't finish until 2am the day of his birthday and so didn't have time to take some good quality pics of my own in decent light. My mate was kind enough to take some snaps for me once he got it home. The satellite dish need rotating to face the correct direction, but this will at least give you guys an idea of what I have been up to the last few weeks!

Thoughts, comments and feedback greatly appreciated as always.

Cheers,

Rob

Great job!!

Really like the top surface. I agree with you that maybe a little bit overweathered in some parts...but I totally understand you...I once put a jerry can inside out in one of my models...it was 5 a.m after all night building to get it to a contest... :hobbyhorse:

I like you rmodel and I like more you make happy your friend...my son is also Stars Wars fan and I have this awful kit waiting to be built for him and I am sure he will not see the lack of detail...but will be happiest a child can be :-)

:goodjob:

For a pigs ear of a kit, that's a nice silk purse!

Nice work Rob, so the engine intake area is a bit over weathered but as nacho said if your friend is happy who's bothered.

By the way it's my birthday in March and I'm a big Star Wars fan and FM do a nice 1/72 Falcon, will wait for the postie!

Cheers,

Warren

Han Solo and Chewie would have been proud to see what you have done with their ship here - top marks

I remember building this kit upon its very first release - straight from the middle of the window display of Teddington Model shop. Mind you, I built mine in just 1 day and needless to say, did not end up looking anything as nice as yours
