Robotics
Hello all, I have finished one again! This time it's the Su-7 in 1/48th scale from OEZ. Because I really like exotic paintschemes I always browse the inet extensively before I start building the aircraft. I stumbled upon a picture of a Sukhoi 7 in Indian sceme which I instantly knew that this would be the one. It was this picture: So then I decided to go for it. For the build I used an Eduard PE set and the Neomega cockpitset which I highly recommend if you should decide to build this kit. It really takes your Sukhoi to another level. The cockpit is of a very high standard with excellent detail!. I also used Hi-Decal stencilling and that is the ast time I have used Hi-Decal. Bad decals with extreme silvering. I tried everyting but could not get rid of this shitty silvering.. Bummer :-( The paints were all Tamiya acrylics and improvised because there are no pictures whatsoever of the plane in this trim and the humbrul paints I could not convert to my liking. Enough of the blabla. Here are the pictures. Enjoy! I hope you enjoy and keep modelling!! Regards, Jeroen

Flankerman
Jeroen, Congratulations on a great model - suberb build and excellent finish. Awesome work on the ejection seat and cockpit - plus all the detail. I hope you don't mind an observation though ??? The Indians operated the Su-7BMK - your model is a Su-7BKL, which they didn't use. You can see its a BKL by the larger nosewheel and bulged doors - plus the 'skis' on the main undercarriage (which is where it gets its BKL designation from). Nonetheless, you have made a great model - please don't let my comments put you off - I'm just trying to be helpful. Ken

HTH Andy It seems that Indian Su-7's wore a variety of schemes, some as in the link, this profile is like Jeroen's model There are very few colour photographs of IAF Su-7s from the time of the 1971 War, and most of these are of poor quality, which makes the identification of colours used to camouflage them extremely problematic. From available black&white photographs, it is obvious that most Sukhois were hastily and heavily camouflaged, usually with paints of poor quality, which - together with heavy use as well as hot and humid weather - swiftly made the aircraft appear badly worn out and dirty. Most of the IAF Su-7BMKs appeared either in "bare metall" overall, or a three-colour camouflage as seen on the example from the No.32 Squadron bellow. Some, however, should have got a camouflage like this, in sand and dark earth (although, it is very likely that fields in dark earth were actually either dark green or even black). from http://www.acig.info/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=160&Itemid=47 see also http://www.acig.info/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=161&Itemid=47 The ACIG site is goldmine for those wanting some unusual subject ideas. Tom Cooper from the site is a member here, and author of books like 'Africane Migs' etc for those interested there is a very comprehensive decal sheet in 1/72nd by DP Caspar some great schemes, and the sheet contains decals for ALL the above aircraft BTW! http://www.dpcasper.cz/obtisky72014.html Hannants stock them in the UK, but they do some very interesting sheets of 'Forgotten Operations' http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?product_category_id=&product_division_id=&manufacturer_id=357726&code=&product_type_id=&scale_id=&keyword_search=&setPerPage=25¤cy_id=
Robotics
Thanks guys for all the replies!! @Ken; Thanks for pointing that out, no problemo! I am aware that I have built the wrong version. If I was to build the BMK but this meant that I had to cut and hack away into the underside, close to the fuselage at the wheel wells and I really didn't want to mess the kit up. I am not really a pure replica builder into the smallest details, I just pick a paintscheme that I like and start building. For me everything is a steep learning curve because everything is new to me. I have build somewhat 20 years ago but isn't really noticable. This is my 4th plane uptil now and I really enjoy finding everything out, experiment and surfing the net for all that's out there. For me, the livery comes before the accuracy of the model. But sure it's nice to know that if I have a question on the subject I know who to ask! I love this forum.. Regards, Jeroen

Robotics
Aha! Thanks Andy That's nice to see! I just used the India decals from the OEZ box. I really think this blue/green/purple scheme is very, very ugly.. I never look at all these designations. I just build the model to my liking Jeroen Edited October 20, 2014 by Robotics
