Airfix 1/72 Severn class RNLI Lifeboat - Aftermarket parts available ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning on doing a Severn class lifeboat as my step mum's 65th birthday present, possibly with a sea base.

But I am especially interested if there are any aftermarket parts I.e. etch parts that can be got for it ?

I am also thinking about including some crew members and am just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a set which might work ?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Hi, Rick! I don't think there are any aftermarket bits, certainly not when I built mine many years ago...! Regarding crew, I did see one that used Airfix Spacemen but where you'd get hold of a set I haven't a clue! Watch where the paint goes, the fit is very tight in places!

Good luck,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for replying.

I know how tight the fit is as I have built one kit already and my step mum has alays liked it.

With regards to crew members, I have found a set which might work as they have been used by someone else :

Cheers,

Rick

I'm not aware of any aftermarket specifically for the Airfix Severn. For crew, Revell does a lifeboat which has crew figures included which you could scrounge from someone, otherwise your best bet is probably adapting rescue helicopter crew figures as they sport a bone dome similar to what the RNLI crews wear.

Be aware that the tolerances are very tight, a layer of paint too thick can affect it, particularly getting the cabin on over the superstructure. The chap who designed this kit is also responsible for the Airfix 1/48 Lightnings and 1/48 Spitfire F.22/24 - Philippe Goulard.

My build with some added lines and cover for the RIB. Note you will also have to print up a name plate for your chosen vessel, these are not included in the decals.
