hi,

Spent a day at Old Warden to see their season finale, with the theme of Race Day - plenty on display and some lovely flying in the autumnal conditions. Here are a few pics captured on the day,

cheers

What incredible photographs! You do this for a living....right? !!

The photo of the Sea Huricane is interesting. I was at Old Warden a few weeks ago and read that it had been involved in a bird strike but I looked at it and couldn't see any damage so I assumed it must have happened months ago. Now I can see the different shade of sky on the starboard inboard wing so maybe that was it? I also notice the different coloured port undercarriage door, wonder why that is?

A wonderful place, a selection of great aircraft, lovely weather and a photographer who can do it all justice. Pete summed it up with one word - 'wow!'.

Thanks for the very kind comments - I only stand there pressing a button, really it's the display pilots who make the displays look so good, as they always have done at Old Warden.

hi Simon - I didn't know about the bird strike until you mentioned it - noticed the different coloured parts during processing and assumed it was part of ongoing maintenance, and not sure what the story behind the door is either.

hi Alpha & John, a lovely day as always - wanted to see the Comet and wasn't disappointed! It was great to see so many different types there as well as the stalwarts, and I wished they had put the Edwardians up a little earlier, but we can't have everything we want can we? (.. and it's a good reason for going back to try and catch them in some nice lighting conditions ;) ).

cheers

Thanks again for the kind comments,

Jonny - the kit used was a Nikon D2Xs and a 500mm F4 lens. The lens is probably a bit too much reach for Old Warden, but it lets you get some of the tighter shots when the aircraft are turning into the display for the crowd,

cheers

aaah! I've just started using a Nikon D5200 and for airshows a 55-300mm zoom. You were sooo lucky with the weather at Shuttleworth! I got up at some unearthly hour to get to Duxford's last event in order to see the two Lancasters. A super experience but no blue sky when the Lancasters arrive.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

Jonny
