marty_hopkirk
If the film is anywhere as near good as the book it should be a real treat. There is a limited edition BD box set coming out complete with a revised edition of the book. Marty...

That looks good, but with the vet bills I'm having to meet at the moment, it's a bit unlikely unfortunately. And if the cinema event weren't enough, the Horror Channel on Freesat is showing the Doctor Who story City of Death this week, featuring David Graham on screen, rather than just his voice, along with Tom Baker, Lalla Ward and Catherine Schell. roymattblack
I was MEGA disappointed when I saw this was a cinema event...... TV.... - PLEASE..... - !!!!! The DVD/book/comic/postcard set???? Maybe at another time, even if it is £20 more. I'd rather see a few 'real' reviews before buying. Roy.

I'm told the box set is likely to be very close to a sell out on pre order. I have the Prisoner BD box set from Network and it is simply stunning in every dimension. I also have the Japanese BD boxes of Thunderbirds and UFO which are shortly due out in Europe (Germany) and again they bring a new dimension to the series and I have no doubt this will too. The original version of the book, which is starting to get tough to find and appears to be acquiring value, originally retailed at £20 alone and at the moment this is the only way one can obtain the revised and updated version. roymattblack
I have the original version of the book. I wonder what the updates will be? I still think there would be big sales in a big, glossy, thick 'coffee table' book of GA's work. I'm amazed that there has never been one. With WETA doing the new TB series, you can be sure there will be some beautiful books to go with it though. Roy
marty_hopkirk
Personally, I would have loved to have seen the theatrical presentations of the remastered programmes, whilst they were made for television, the aspiration was to create a cinematic event. There is no where within easy striking distance of the Republic of West Yorkshire so I'm out of luck- I'm a little disappointed that the National Media Musuem is not showing this as it would have been an ideal fit, given they hold some of the original filming props and and one of the few extant copies of Doppelganger. They could have shown that too, along with the recently remastered Thunderbirds movies and created quite an event. Marty... marty_hopkirk
I don't think we are going to see these remastered versions on TV anytime soon. Those waiting for that will need to be patient and wait for the BD sales to run their course first. I would have personally put the Shubrook and Meddings book in the 'coffee table' bracket and there has been a stream of Japanese books that loosely fall into that category too. Marty... marty_hopkirk
For those not wishing to dip for the box set, some of the the BDs are available separately too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Filmed-Supermarionation-This-Blu-ray/dp/B00NP0N1LC/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1413102205&sr=1-1&keywords=filmed+in+supermarionation The new film is available as a DVD, but obviously the remastered episodes are not. .http://www.amazon.co.uk/Filmed-Supermarionation-DVD-Gerry-Anderson/dp/B00NP0N1EY/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1413102553&sr=1-2&keywords=filmed+in+supermarionation I believe the revised book has lot more unseen photos. Marty... That might be the way to go. I found the film to be a very good presentation of the material covered by the book, and it was good to see the people who were involved at the time showing such delight in their work and a can-do attitude towards solving problems. I would recommend it to any fan of Gerry Anderson's work. Personally, I would have loved to have seen the theatrical presentations of the remastered programmes, whilst they were made for television, the aspiration was to create a cinematic event. Marty... It worked for me on a big screen with a high-quality sound system, but I was a little surprised and disappointed to be one of about a dozen people sitting in a 95-seat cinema. Echoes of the Thunderbirds movies failing at the box office. I don't know what the attendances were like at other locations. I had never seen a full episode of Four Feather Falls or Supercar before, and the increases in realism and sophisication of the puppetry techniques for each new show were fascinating. The thing that dated it all for me wasn't the shows themselves, which came across as futuristic and imaginative as ever, but the TV advertisements that had been put into the commercial breaks. Lyons Maid Zoom or Skyray anyone? Only 6d. And an ice lolly especially for girls, (Fab)? Try getting away with that these days. Sitting in a theatre for four hours without an intermission may sound like quite an ordeal but the time flew by. I imagine that a lot of chaps of a certain age, (you know who you are), will be putting the discs on their Xmas list. I certainly shall, and I hope that more material is given the restoration treatment. Cheers, Paul
marty_hopkirk
I saw Thunderbird 6 was it was released as the summer holiday movie of 1968. My Brother and my uncle where the only people in a 1400 seat cinema. Network have been cute or devious depending on ones point of view point because there are episodes exclusive to both the box set and 2 set BD, to therefore get all remastered episodes in hi def one has to buy both. But, I do like the idea of having the bumpers and contemporary adverts, looking forward to it I must say. Marty... marty_hopkirk
Series 1 of Space 1999 is already available in BD and it's been hinted that series 2 is not far away. BDs of UFO and TBs are not far away for Europe which is great. However, I would be extremely surprised to see complete series of BDs of the likes of Four Feather Falls and the Secret Service, but who knows? Marty... marty_hopkirk
Picked my box set up to today it is a quality package. The from a quick glance looks like its had a major overhaul. For a start it is a chunky hard back. Marty...
marty_hopkirk
I have watched an episode of Captain Scarlet - the quality is nothing short of stunning. Marty...
marty_hopkirk
Working my way through the set, the remastering is exceptional throughout. I would have to say the remasters of TBs appear to a marginally better than the Japanese BDs. Marty...
Neil Lambess
what aspect ratio are the Tbirds episodes Marty ? the first Uk Bluray set released a couple of years back had them at 1.85 to 1 ,instead of 1.33 to 1 which for the most part looked stunning and didnt seem overly cropped , but raised a lot of complaints from fans...... (My feeling is that the 35mm cameras that shot Thunderbirds full frame at 1.33 were fitted with a standard 1.85 viewfinder for possible cinema composition )
marty_hopkirk
Neil it's the proper (TV) ratio of 1:33 nothing cropped here. Marty...
marty_hopkirk
Just finished watching the movie "Filmed in Supermarionation" it's a stunning film - huge amount of the footage is unseen, including colour behind the scenes footage of "Four Feather Falls", Supercar" and "Thunderbirds" is mind blowing. It comes with the highest recomendation. Marty...
