dawkuk
Hiya. The Quad is done, so i started looking for something else. Then i found Tamiya's Sd.Kfz. 222 i started eight years ago, but due to moving out i never finished it. Now it's time to make it done. This is a nice Tamiya kit. It's got photo-etched mesh covers and aluminium gun barrel. I also got Eduard set for this model, so it is going to be more demanding than the Quad. I intend to do it in Afrika Korps paint scheme. Ok, here's what i got. Note that all those pictures were taken eight years ago First cleanings, putty work etc. Chassis mounted. The gun and aluminium barrel. Tamiya didn't include any interior parts which was disapointing. I'll try to recreate side walls as they'll be visible. Detailed gun. Eduard has done it's work big time. Looks good. And that's how it looks after putting it together. This is what i did eight years ago. It's been sitting in a plastic box since that time. I hope i got all the parts. Will be back. Dawid.
HL-10
I've built so many of these over the years, I just love the little thing! Some impressive work going on here! Looking forward to the finished model

dawkuk
Hi, lads. The build is not going at pace i would like it to go, but here's some little progress. I've decided to recreate side panels on both walls as they'll be visible throgh the open turret. It's pieces of plastic, some PE parts form Eduard and equipment from various sets i found in my 'trash-stash'. The doors also got PE parts. Then i put a primer. Surfacer 2000. Guns. ...aaand interior. I alson started working on outside details... That is it for now... Enjoy...
dawkuk
OK, some more progress over the weekend - here it is. I started with a turret outside details. Here it is. I also painted the floor with Pactra's mix of black and white. The rest of interior will be painted white. The floor should also be white i suppose, but it will be hardly visible in the shadows, and i wanted it to give contrast. The guns' crew also had their sits painted. Fuel/water cans holders. That's Eduard's PE parts. Fenders also got PE parts. Aaand, as usual, overview. Pictures are not great - i made them in the morninh - light was too bright, so the contrast is sharp. That is it for now. Enjoy. Dawid.

Keep up the good work. Cheers Pat
dawkuk
Thank you, lads. I am enjoying the build. Some paintings done. First i masked the floor. After that - Matt White Pactra paint: It's not the best colour to put on i must say. Bur it'll be hardly visible and weathered, so it's fine. I removed the maskings, which revealed some bloopers. But the overall is not so bad. Upper hull. Hull put together. And the littles. Enjoy.
JOCKNEY
Nice detail of the internal components, don't forget the wooden handles on the stick grenades ! Cheers Pat

Beard
Seeing this has reminded me that I've got one of these half-done, it's only been stalled for 4 or 5 years, which deserves to be finished. dawkuk
Hello there. The machine rolls. Slowly but steady. Here's what i've got: Headlights and stuff. Fenders also were completed (almost) PE plates look good. Some more detail - all the plastic parts are used, so i can put down the glue. Front fenders. Right side panel. Left one. Another beauty... Next time: inside weathering. Enjoy. Dawid
dawkuk
Hello, lads, I did the weathering inside vehicle. Here it is: First, it was wash. Not many details, so i put it in the corners. After that i did the chippings. The effect is strong. It'll be hardly visible, so i did that this way. The side panels were attached to their places. Next stage was the filter. I did the pics in the sun, so the colour's washed out, but you can see the yellowish little thing going on. I wanted it to be subtle. Can't wait to close the thing. I'll do little drybrushing with some metalics on the floor and lower gun parts, so i'll probably close 222 in next post. Enjoy. Dawid
dawkuk
All right, boys. Some more progress over last week. Also, i got a lightbox to make the pictures look better. I let you decide if they do I finally closed the 222. The old Tamiya kit required a little bit of putty and sandpaper work. Okay, maybe not that little I like it without fenders. Like from Mad Max movie... The other side closed pretty nice. Then i assembled the fenders... And exhaust... That is it for now. Time to put the glue down and bring out the airbrush Enjoy. dawkuk
Hello, there. Today a fast one. I put the primer on: Here it is. Time for paint
dawkuk
Hey, lads. It was great christmas. Well, i didn't find any new models under the tree but it's OK. Didn't expect them anyway. There's some progress over the 222, though. Have a look: No new models, but i got this really nice handmade PE bender. Back to model: I put a liitle preshading on It's a mix of pactra's Black Matt and Gray paints. I did it also for the decals, as I'll to them at this stage. Then I painted guns with Mr. Hobby Steel paint. It will be weathered, so most of the shine will come off. There's another look. And the gun itself. Here's decals masked with a Blu-Tac. I had some problems with decals. They are pretty old and really thick. I used Decal Set and Decal Sol and i am not entirely happy with the result. Probably i should put a coat of gloss varnish under. It got worse, though as i did put a matt varnish on decals. I thinned it a little with vodka, which made na reaction with the decal fluids. Had to redo some of them which really annoyed me. Well, looks like the decals are still my weak spot. 222 ready for paint. I was going to put a layer of sany yellow, when something clogged my airbrush. I cleaned it. When i was putting it together... the thread of a nozzle broke. That was not pleasant. I have plans of buying a new airbrush in 2015 anyway, so now i have a perfect excuse to do that. That's Eureka's towing cable. And i also have these lovely resin canisters. That is it for now. I am waiting for new airbrush. See ya soon. ModelJaeger
Brilliant work, it is so structured and firmly made! And the interior-weathering is beautiful. Like I said, brilliant! :-)
dawkuk
Thanks, man, I'm glad you like it. I don't. I just checked how are decals doing under the Blu-Tac. It came off... with decals. I used Decal-Set and -Sol, I put two layers of varnish and Blu-Tac ripped decals anyway. I don't have spare ones. Have to figure something out... dawkuk
...and I did. It's good to have large modellers' community, who's got your back and is able to supply you once you need it. I have another set of decals for my 222. I didn't want to risk putting them before yellow paint, so i did it the other way. I just masked places where the decals will go and painted my 222 with Tamiya's Dark Yellow colour. Then i took off the blu-tack masks. The back. The weathering of this thing will be a great pleasure Underparts. Aaaand the front. The turret. And the mesh-cover. The wheels. There's just three, i know. The fourth one will be in panzer grey to make the model less symetric. One more thing. I'll make it a little vignette - that's the base. Enjoy... robw_uk
nice work... shame about the decals earlier but look forward to the progress. Have a soft spot for these vehicles - I built the Hobby Boss one a couple of years ago
dawkuk
Thanks, Rob. There is progress - i got the decals. Here's my latest doings. I took the blu-tac off and sprayed whole vehicle with Tamiya's gloss varnish. The pictures don't show the gloss, but it's there. OK, it's time for decals. I used the Micro Set and Sol just to make sure. Well, i would't be myself if i didn't ruin something, like this plate. But i looks weathered already, so i'll leave it like that. The spare tire will go here. Aaand the back. That's it for now. Time for matt varnish and... Yes. The weathering Enjoy. Dawid.
foxy
Decals are always the bug, but putting Klear or a gloss first and then placing, will help. Once dry add another coat of varnish/Klear to seal. You will not go far wrong this way. It does take time though to let things settle/dry. Great many pictures but you are getting there and all looks good on an iconic vehicle. Great stuff. foxy
dawkuk
Thanks, Foxy. There is a coat of gloss under the decals. They look fine. Now i'll put the matt varnish to settle the decals.
Stesca
Really like the look of this, a lovely little vehicle.
dawkuk
Thanx, Steve. I started with a weathering. First it was AK-Interactive's Filter for DAK vehicles. That changed a tonation of a base colour, but very slightly. After that, I put the wash. It was also an AK-Interactive product designed for vehicles used in Africa. I was generous with the effect. The surface will be chipped heavily, so some of that will vanish. But first i will enrich the base colour with some oil colours. But that comes in the next episode... Enjoy.
