1/72 Revell/Dragon King Tiger kitbash!

Recommended Posts

So here's my next braille scale installment!

The Dragon kit #7246 is a nice kit with decent detail, pe engine grills & markings for 4 units. However, the hull didn't look as good as the turret so I substituted that for a Revell one. In the picture, anything grey is Dragon, anything tan is Revell.

First a coat of Tamiya Dark Yellow, followed by the first camo colour Humbrol 117.

Then the second camo colour, Humbrol 133.

Then the dots, these were applied with a fine-tip pen dipped in paint.

TBH I'd probably have just used the Dragon details on the Revell kit.....But you've got a nice looking model out of the Dragon kit.

The engine intake grills are dreadful in both kits and could really do with replacing with etch.....Which tracks will you be using? :hmmm:

Thanks Alpha & the Sarge! The Revell kit I brought on eBay & it came without a turret or any running gear! I got a full refund, so it was sitting in a cupboard gathering dust!

The Dragon kit comes with pe grill covers that are reasonable - certainly better than nothing!

Now ... the tracks! I couldn't work out how to use the Revell ones - unfortunately I stumbled on your build Sarge after wrestling with the Dragon vinyl ones :( but as I'm sure you know, the Dragon tracks are too short! So some Revell parts will be used to fit the gap.

As you can see, the decals are on & I've given it a faint wash - I'll add to this again.

That's it for now

I have spare Dragon track if you want it.....DS or Vinyl? :hmmm:

Thanks for that very kind offer Sarge, but I have some of the Revell track so I'll plug the gap with them - I definitely don't want to remove the tracks after the *@#$* trouble I had sticking them on!

  • 3 weeks later...

A little update on this build -

I've finished the weathering using a mixture of oils & coloured pencils (a bit of an experiment!)

After that I added the smaller parts ; tow cables, tools (apart from the spade which broke!)

I also patched the gap in the tracks with some Revell links. It's not ideal, but mud should conceal the joins!

Some ' foliage ' was also added, which is actually a plant I found in the garden.

Looks ing very good dubster, i know what you mean about the revell tracks they make no sense at all. I made the rookie error of fitting the wheel sets beore the tracks so its in a bit of a stripped state mine.

Revell really screwed the instructions for the L&L in their Kingtiger kits.....I had photographed the correct assembly sequence, but I seem to have mislaid the pictures.

If you can figure out how to assemble them right the Revell L&L are superb (and if you are prepared to add a connector pin to each and every link, they're nigh on perfect).
