sunray
The last time I built an Airfix Gnat I think I was 8 years old and now I am 52, my how the kit has changed. Apart from the stand, the pilot and a few scratch built things for the cockpit this is a straight out of the box build which went together with no problems at all.
Driver66
Very tidy. How do you make the stand?

sunray
Very tidy. How do you make the stand? Thanks for the comment. The stand is a scrap piece of oak flooring which is cut to size and routed, then I cut a piece of acrylic rod to size and put the rod in the oven for a few minutes to soften then I bent to shape. All I did then was drill a hole on the base. Hope this helps

Work In Progress
Very nice, I like stand models of this nature. Where do you source the acrylic rod? I have a few jets coming up and could do with a small stash in various calibres.

Brian G
Another point for those who will be building the Airfix 1/48th Gnat (soon!). The two aerials, (and the forward one is a dummy one), on the spine are set at quite an angle, (see any photographs of the Gnat). They were set at complimentary opposite angles so that the airflow over the fin and rudder was not disturbed. Cheers, Brian

sunray
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments but I feel most of the credit goes to Airfix for producing an excellent kit and I can't wait for the 1/48 version. I bought various sizes of acrylic rod off the web from www.theplasticshop.co.uk . Here are a few photo's I took at Waddington this year just to wet your appetite.
