bootneck
This happened yesterday (Monday) at the entrance to the Suez Canal The ships are Colombo Express (1:700 Revell 05241) and Maersk Tanjong. I feel a diorama coming on! Mike 1

bootneck
A few pointers.... as the HPL ship approaches to overtake the Maersk, it appears restricted in manoeuvrability due to the ship on the left and the boats to the right. Ahead, the channel is already becoming narrower. I've seen these moves on narrow roads but never at sea before. Is there a way to save these type of video clips for later viewing? rich2010
That skipper appears to suffer from the same malaise as my missus, except she drives our car into Range Rovers. Grrrr... (Er no jokes about thinking it was bigger/ smaller/ not used to such a big thing etc.)
garryrussell
Retricted channel...the larger vessel probably sucked the smaller vessel into it...like the Titanic sucking the two liners towards it as it left Southampton and the HMS Hawke/Olympic incident. Shar2
The initial report says the they had rudder problems. The rudder went hard to port when only a small deflection input was given.
garryrussell
Interesting..must surely be mechanical failure or as I suggested. I doubt very much that he didn't see him. Odd though that there was an attempt to overtake in such as small space
Richard E
Something different, no doubt Injury-lawyers-for-U.com are already preparing the whiplash claims.

Dave Swindell
Plenty of room to pass there. Looks like the new cut (east channel). Colombo Express as overtaking vessel has to keep clear. Looks like steering gear problems from the sharp turn, if it had been interaction they would have been drawn together almost parallel.
