However whoever wrote the story needs a good slap. Yelena Serova is not the first female cosmonaut in 17 years - she's the first RUSSIAN one. There have been dozens of women from other countries who have flown in that time, many of them launched BY the Russians. So the ISS is not a boys-only clubhouse as the article implies. Two of them have even commanded it! In all there have been 58 women in space - one of them (Peggy Whitson) has spent 376 days on orbit, on two separate flights. Another is the joint holder of the EVA duration record - 8 hours 56 minutes.
