Bell 47D "M*A*S*H" Helicopter

HL-10

Recommended Posts

This started out as a quick build but I couldn't help myself and started to add details.

I added a couple of resin stretchers to the side litters along with some tissue blankets.

The cockpit had some bits and pieces added and I refined some other kit parts.

The stars and bars on the tail boom were added to make it look more like the choppers

from the film/T.V. series.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it! :)
I loved the show, I have the complete box set

I also enjoy the original film too.

The series lasted longer than the actual Korean war!

When the BBC first showed the series, they dropped the laughter track.

It was briefly re-instated but there were complaints so they took if of again.

The re-runs on various satellite/cable channels has the laughter track, as does the box set :(

What a lovely model! Well done on the extra details as well.

A couple of bits of MASH trivia for you (I'm a bit of a fan);

In the film the shots of the loudspeaker with the moon above were filmed when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were on the Sea of Tranquility.

The series was ambiguous about whether it was in Vietnam or Korea by design. The locals straw hats aren't a Korean thing for example. There were occasional snippets that told you it was Korea but only enough to satisfy the programme sponsors.

What a fantastic build - love it!

Isn't it amazing how very simple this machine is when compared to choppers today. Simplicity that worked with no real electronics to foul up

Loved the M*A*S*H series when Ii was growing up. Still see the odd re-run every now and then.

"Hotlips" Hoolahan (?) - never knew what she saw in Major whats-his-face (name escapes me right now)....

Weirdly enough, Ive just posted on the newbie forum as my return to building models. Currently its a Vulcan... I know now its huge but hey ho eyes are not as sharp as they were nor hands as nimble. We shall see.... BUT.... I was reminicing on You Tube and caught a quick video of M.A.S.H... ( great series) and I thought I have never buit a helicopter so will make that my next project.... Hmmm just saw yours.....not sure I can measure up to that...Its superb, even when I was good I wasnt that good..LOL. but will give it a good go....Just not been able to find a 1/72 scale model of the 47D (with saddle tanks).... was yours a larger scale..
