Shar2
I like the look of the Dremel printer, but 100 microns is still quite low res. Still it's heading in the right direction.

Shar2
We've just ordered a Cube printer which has a resolution of between 30 and 16 microns which is perfect for modelling add-ons.
Mike
...and the price? If you have to ask, you can't afford it 30 microns... $4999, but with a small printing bed if it's the size of a coffee machine
Shar2
The one we've just ordered is £62,000.

Mike
me too... one for odd days, and one for evens The one we've just ordered is £62,000. I thought you were getting one for £600,000 or thereabouts? Have things come on that much?
Shar2
We are still on for getting the big one. But the price has come down from £680,000 to £480,000. The smaller one is for our new design and production lab.

thomastmcc
you looked at the makerbot ones ?
Greenshirt
The 3 things affecting price, as I understand: 1) resolution 2) size of print area 3) speed of print Most modelers can accept smaller 2) and lower 3), but 1) needs to be in range of 30-16 microns to begin to achieve a scale appearance, which is about 1/2 mm or so. For some details (cockpits and other fiddlies) even that would be too low a resolution. I view affordability in £99 or less range, for something that can support our hobby. Akin to the inkjet printers, the cost curve eventually dropped to a point that some printers are throwaway--new cartridges cost more than the new printer that has free cartridges in the box. We'll pay much much more for the printing materials than the printer. Tim
Shar2
With layering using melted plastic wire the speed will always be pretty slow. When the liquid materials become more widespread will the speed on affordable machines become more acceptable as they print in much the same way as ink jet printers being bi-directional, the resolution will also improve. But their use of IR/ultraviolet curing may not be acceptable in the home.

Ali62
Guys I think at this stage it will be foolish to purchase a printer. I have been doing some development work and should receive dome printed items this week, from some outsourced companies, I have had one part done so far and from what I can see the results are very favourable and 'reasonable' If you are interested I can put up some pictures and give you some indications when I can put a package of information together. Why layout fortunes when if you can do the 3D drawing work yourself you just use a company to print what you need. The technology is developing so fast anything you buy right now is out of date, unless you are maybe going to spend huge amounts, and let us be honest most of us cannot afford the really good printers. More info to follow if you are interested when I have prints to hand. Ali
