Alan P
Hi all, Here's my take on the very nice Revell 1/32 kit of this big ugly beast. It's actually a very good kit, the best large scale Revell kit I've ever made. Which is high praise indeed! I used the Flightpath detail set, Verlinden equipment bays and 30mm cannon, and scratch built loads of extra details. I received the kit for free, part built and without any instructions or decals. I got the instructions off the internet and made decals using my home computer. The subject is the flight leader's aircraft from A Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment. The group was assigned as part of Task Force Normandy, which fired the first shot of Operation Desert Storm in the early hours of 17 January 1991. The mission was at the extreme range of the Apache, and each carried a long-range fuel tank which varies the loadout a bit. All following photos thanks very much to Chris Bradley of IPMS Farnborough. Cheers for looking 🙂 43

daryl_five_zero
Wow, fantastic build! I think you've got to be a masochist or have the patience of a saint to get results like that from such a pig of a kit. The canopy in particular looks absolutely spot on. Damnit, seeing how yours has turned out makes me want to build another! Even though I remember all to well how bad the fit and detail in places is, I always find myself tempted whenever one pops up. Kudos on a cracking result! Daryl.

Alpha Delta 210
That is one very realistic-looking Apache - incredible! How many hours do you think you put in it after receiving it part-built?

Alan P
Thank you! I don't know how many hours it took, but it was just about a month to build. I had to dismantle the previous work done on it, which was hard because they'd used good cement! I must have got a good shot of the kit because mine had no fit issues at all! That's why I thought it was one of the best Revell 1/32 I've seen. Thanks for the nice comments!

Mario
Your Apache looks absolutely realistic. Great detailing, paintwork and weathering. I wonder how you made the IR-jammer / disco light. Is it holografic material? Best regards Mario
Alan P
Thanks very much Mario. The film I used is this stuff: only link I could find!
Mario
Thank you very much for the quick reaction. I have heard about this foil - looks really stunning at your helicopter. Last Christmas I bought some laser tinsel (I hope this is the correct English term for it). Of course it is not as thin as the film you obviously used, but you can also create some effects with it regarding cockpit instruments or sensor optics.
