Knikki
Been reading this thread on and off and find it really interesting, I have known about Battleship Yamoto but was unaware of all the kits, films etc you can get. Well I got into manga/anime when I worked in the games industry which was like 20 years ago ggggeeee how time flies........ But couple of questions if I may Where can you get kits of the various ships you talk about? (I am aware that some are scratch built) Where can you see/get the films from? I assume it is a case of hunting You Tube, something else to do at lunch time, busy watching Gunpla Fighters at the moment which is fun. Madhatter
Jim, yes, there are colour refs in there would seem that's where ourstarblazers etc got most of their pics from to start with as they are pretty much the same ones. However, its the line drawings that are most prevalent. Knikki, you can get these kits online or in most major hobby shops. I have brought 3 from a shop and 2 online from hobby link Japan. Postage is the biggest drawback for me when buying from HLJ. Their kit prices are very cheap but man, you pay through the nose to have it shipped. Misrule has posted a few links to some short out take videos but I have links at home to the complete series, again, courtesy of misrule. There is also a DVD of the live action SBY movie, which is fantastic visually but somewhat short on story with a couple of plot falls, bit still entertaining. Well worth the watch! Hope some of this helps. I would place links but im on my phone and have all the good stuff on my pc at home.
Misrule
Hi there I've found that Hobbylink Japan is a solid option for getting hold of the kits, though I hear hobby search and Amiami are good options too. They do pop up on ebay and Amazon, plus a couple of specialist shops but prices tend to be a bit steep. If you can get a good postage rate you can usually get them cheaper than ebay etc, worth shopping around With the shows, Google will see you right I won't link directly as its a bit of a hazy area but they aren't hard to find and well worth a look. Keeps the best bits of the original and adds some excellent stuff on top. Not many old style space operas out there with full scale battles and world changing consequences riding on the choices of the heroes. Classic stuff
Madmonk
Been working on a lighting kit for the 1/500, though not finished yet I have managed to get some of it working with an IR Remote. Will post a video tomorrow. Cheers, Warren
Madhatter
Maybe you could also do a Garmillas lit set too, like what you did for me? 1/1000 scale I wouldn't mind another one for my upcoming Domelaze
Madmonk
Could be the start of a whole new range for me! This one is fairly simple with giving low output for main engine, full output with aux engines and front wave weapon. Will also add side status lights (please let me know what the technical term for these is). Will grab a set of instructions for the Domelaze and see what can be added. Cheers, Warren

Cheers, Warren no one really knows what the technical term for those side lights are - even the creator doesn't know With the wave gun, start the light on a low intensity and then a full on blinding show for a couple of seconds - just like on the show. You've already got the programming for the side lights so your off to a start With the Domelaze, there is actually a lot of room inside - more than you need. The best part is, a 9V battery will fit perfectly inside the joining lock of the 2 halves of the ship[ (you'll know what I mean the minute you see it) Oddly enough though, there is very little room at the back where the engines are - which kind of surprises me a bit, but that's because of the slopping design of the ship. If you go to megahobby's website, I'm sure they'll have the instructions on there to see like they do for most kits on sale. If not, let me know and I'll scan in mine and email them to you There are not a lot of lights on the Domelaze to be honest, but you could go to town on most of the other ships - especially the likes of the Haizerado class ships (the gray one I did recently). The engine lights seem to emit in a circular pattern for some reason. A bit weird but quite effective Speaking of lighting, where do you buy your little micro processors from? I am going to buy the Arduino (compatible) programming base and I need to know where to buy the processors from so I can start programming my own boards Cheers Si Edit: gosh, I just re-read this and it sounds very bossy. Sorry, not the intention. Just excitement Edited January 12, 2015 by Madhatter
Madmonk
Hi Si, Firstly, didn't read it a being bossy so no problem. Spent yesterday cleaning out the man cave and garage as I couldn't get into either for modelling stuff and junk. Apparently according to SWMBO the garage is for putting cars in! This meant that I didnt get round to taking a video of the Yamato lighting. Will do it tonight. As for the processors I use ebay, found a good supplier in the UK for the Attiny85 chips but China is the best place for the Nano and Mini. Madhatter
Is there any particular seller in China or are they all pretty much the same? Is that also where you get those mini circuit boards from there as well ?
Knikki
Apparently according to SWMBO the garage is for putting cars in! Only in England do you have £20+k car sat on the driveway because the garage is full of junk
Pete in Lincs
Captain Harlock was on TV here the other day. Shame it was in Japanese & no subtitles option. Still, Awesome pictures! There were times I had to wonder whether I was looking at real actors or not!
Madhatter
Until very recently - like about 5days ago - I'd never heard of Captain Harlock. What actually is it?
Madmonk
Okay, I guess I won't have a career in the movies but here is the first video of the Yamato 2199 lighting kit. Just shows the engines and Wave gun and the IR remote control, all done using an Arduino Uno. Hopefully I can put it on to an Arduino Nano later. Misrule
Looks very spiffy Harlock was originally a bit of a Yamato spin off. Same creator, same basic art style, it was at conception meant to be part of the Yamato universe (Harlock was to be the elder brother of the main Yamato character) But it grew to be its own thing. Continuity is a little hazy, it's had a few re-imaginings and alterations most recent being a high budget CGI film which was pretty breathtaking. Harlock is a pretty popular franchise, and its linked to several other shows as part of a grand universe of stories which is pretty dense and interweaving. Takes a bit of effort to break into but rather good overall. Emeraldas was always a favourite of mine

Misrule
Very attractive build, I wonder if they'll release an upgrade set for the battlecarrier to build it in that style? Still my favourite alien ship The film itself is out on DVD/Blu-ray 25th of May with about three hours of extras on the top tier release, English subtitles also which is very handy
Madhatter
I had no idea the new version of the Darold needed an upgrade other than a paint job. So can't wait for the DVD release!!
Misrule
I'd be hoping it would add hangar bay details, a squadron of fighters and the modified flight deck compared to the original. Plus as you say new markings Bit quiet on the new kit front at the moment but with both the film and the soundtrack out in May I'd suspect something released about then too. The new enemy destroyers maybe

Misrule
Rather than making a new thread I thought it might be better to bring this one back with some new material  The sequel to 2199 is getting closer, due end of February 2017, and we've started to see more and more pieces of design and footage. First up was this beauty...   The new Earth flagship and Yamato's replacement. A 1/1000 kit for this has been confirmed for early next year. Not much info yet but she's supposed to be beefier that Yamato so should be a decent sized kit.  Also had a couple of trailers the latest of which had this in it   The trio of superdreadnoughts with that intricate hull marking is awesome enough, but there's also some Earth ships fighting beside them wearing American names. Real joint fleet. The whole snippet also shows some new Gatlantis warships too     Bandai did a really good job with the kits for the 2199 series, well beside the aircraft, so hopefully with this new series starting we'll get a similar shower of space warships  Maybe even one of those ink master dreadnoughts

SH2199
Hi all, I'm getting a 1/1000 scale domelaze model for Christmas and I intend to do it up as the Deusla I. What paint colour(s)Â should I use for it? I know it's not completely blue but I'm not sure which paint colour would be best. (Btw, I prefer to use Humbrol enamel paints so I'd prefer suggestions to be that type of paint).
Misrule
The official colour is supposed to be this...  The closest Humbrol I can see is Oxford blue number 104  though probably wants a bit of grey in there.   Also I'd suggest a couple of tins, there's a lot of surface area to cover  More than I expected Edited December 22, 2016 by Misrule
SH2199
Thanks Misrule. Also, out of interest, what colours should be used for the Zergutt?
